Hello everybody,
For the past few months I have been researching and writing about the albums of the Beatles. After 5½ years of running this YouTube channel, and I am very excited to finally be on the verge of making videos about the Beatles' music.
But I am at an impasse. Lately I have been wondering about the concept of the "super long YouTube video essay/ranking" style that has governed my previous rankings, namely the massive Ringo Starr one. It has served me well and I'm rather fond of the format but I was contemplating if it's still the wisest choice for me.Suffice it to say, if I intend to make a single video called Every Beatles Album Ranked Worst to Best, it will likely be very, very long (maybe in the ballpark of eight hours). I have made a lot of notes and have a lot to say about these albums, and I do just need that amount of time to weave this all together.And what I am trying to figure out now is... would that be cool? Or Is an eight-nine hour video just too unwieldy? (I'm also keeping in mind new viewers who may find such a video rather intimidating).I have thus been considering a Beatles Get Back-style approach where I split the ranking up across two-three different videos released maybe a fortnight apart. As I like to do with my ranking videos, there would be a narrative of sorts woven throughout the video/s with callbacks and references to previous facts/stories from earlier in the ranking. A positive of this option is that it can maybe build hype between each video's release(?)The other option is to take a Beatles Anthology-style approach and make a single video for each Beatles album and not rank them, but just release them chronologically, every week or so (starting with Please Please Me and ending with Abbey Road or Let It Be). But is the ranking format what hooks people in?!?! I don't know! lol. If it really meant something to ya'll, I could maybe announce my favourite album/full ranking as a side-note but maybe that takes some wind out of the sails.I really want to hear from you on this conundrum of mine. I'm trying to consider what is best for my audience (you folks), what's best for the algorithm, and what's best when considering the story-telling aspect of this entire project. I know this is difficult to reason with when you haven't seen the content of my videos, but even still, please vote in the poll and let me know your thoughts in the comments.
