[kpop] NewJeans - Hype Boy

NewJeans is interesting to me because I basically took a break from K-pop between 2022 and 2024, meaning I completely missed NewJeans while they were active. It wasn't until recently, while working on the Ditto script back in December, that I finally understood why everyone was so obsessed with them.

They a capture a nostalgic feeling while still sounding modern is incredible. Looking back, it's easy to see how influential they were on the current generation of groups. I don't think we'd have groups like ILLIT, KiiiKiii, and many others in quite the same form without NewJeans paving the way. It's a damn shame about their legal troubles and that they might never release more music again...

The music itself is also so well produced. I spent hours listening to Hype Boy on repeat through my IEMs while scripting and kept noticing new little details in the production every time.

And the dancing is absolutely top tier. they've got a level of cleanliness, sync, and natural groove that makes a lot of groups look amateurish by comparison. Syncing the vids for this one was an absolute pleasure.

As for the script itself, Hype Boy was a joy to work on and I've spent hours editing this one and ended up having it syncing beautifully with both the music and choreography. I feel like I was able to capture the sort of relaxed but real feelings type of vibe of the song in the script.
