All characters depicted in this and all my other works are 18 years of age or older.
Hello there, everyone.
My apologies that this took so long. Every problem solved during this dev cycle was met with a whole slew of new problems, and it seemed like there was no end to it. But having worked on this update as much as I possibly could, it is finally done.
Huge thanks to all of you for supporting me. This would have taken way, WAY longer without your continued support, and I thank you all for it. I will get into everything that happened at the bottom of the post, since I am guessing you are all eager to dive into the update itself.
Quick FYI: Some parts of this update might feel finicky, namely the chat. I added a few helper scripts that keep everything together, but it might lag a bit, especially if a lot of ShareSpace posts need to be updated. These problems have been noted and will be fixed during the rework.
So, this update finishes the office trip. It is a wide update with multiple choices to be made in chat, AskItShareIt, and the comics. So feel free to explore a bit.
The gallery has been updated to support the animations added to the comics and ShareSpace. In some animations, it uses the censorship setting, so if you have full censorship enabled, you might not see anything.
The backup app has been updated. New saves and saves you overwrite will gain access to new features. Icons have been added so you have an idea of what major decisions you have made in that save. You can tap the profile picture for additional info and icons. A quick legend has been added below that explains what these icons mean. Some icons are not shown because... 🤫 secret.
The comic gallery has also been updated so all your comics are persistent. If a comic has multiple choices, then you unlock only the ones you have seen. A "Skip seen comics" setting has been added as well. If you enable that in the settings menu, it will skip any comic you have unlocked in your persistent gallery except for the ones with choices.
You may have run into some issues if you didn't let Matt have his way with Liz during NTRS in version 0.22. I was using the same variable for multiple things, which caused Liz's alternate message path not to trigger.
This has been fixed. However, you will need to replay from a point where Liz asks if she can be with Matt, where you can hold her off or tell her to go with it. If you did not let Matt meet up with Liz, then you should be okay for future updates.
There were also a lot of reports about the comic feature sometimes bugging out. Since that was on the rework schedule, I decided to start with that and release it in this bugfix.
FYI: If you load a save and overwrite the same save file in the backup menu. The save system will update the save so it shows the new stats/icons.
NTR Mobile v0.23.1:
Fixed endgame chats not triggering. You will have to replay a bit before triggering the chat for it to work.
Added an icon to the save screen so you can see if you triggered Zaria on your save or not. Also updated the legend down below.
Comics have been updated.
Increased overall stability of the comic system.
Now has a skip page button. This button loads the entire page instead of per panel.
Settings has a comic speed slider added to it so you can set the speed of all the comics.
Fixed some images not being shown properly in the gallery.
Fixed alternate Liz conversation not triggering properly if you do not know about Matt.
Some performance improvements here and there.
NTR Mobile v0.23.0:
Updated persistent gallery to support videos. These unlock with their respective image so if you already have a image in your gallery with a linked video it will automatically unlock.
Updated gallery to support censorship settings for videos.\
Upgraded comic gallery to persistent comic gallery.
Every comic now has it's own ID.
Comic with multiple choices/scenes show how many choices there are and which ones you have unlocked.
You can replay comics with the choices you have unlocked.
Updated settings to support automatically skipping comics you have already unlocked in your persistent gallery. Note, comics with choice on them can not be skipped as they can decide how the story progresses.
Updated chat to load chats faster.
Updated Backup app to show more safe information at a glance. The icons are as follows:
Added helper scripts to handle glued together backend.
Added helpers to unlock images that are not directly shown in the game directly to the persistent gallery.
Removed some redundant code.
Bugfixes...
Bugfixes.......
And finally the story continues!
I don't even know where to start.
First, let me apologize. It's not rare for things to go wrong during development, and I can understand the frustration it brings. For the last two or three months, my cycle has been eat, sleep, dev, and repeat, all to get things right. (I miss my friends and family. ☹️)
Let's start from the beginning. The backend of NTRM isn't that trash. It's just not the right design for this type of game. I started creating this backend almost two years ago, and back then I didn't really have the best knowledge of how Unity handles GameObjects, scripts, threads, etc. Not to mention, during that time I added new features that were basically duct taped to the rest of the code. All of that became technical debt that was building up.
Wanting this update to be more than just a "quick linear two days to close up the office trip quick quick" kind of pushed it over the edge, especially on the NTR path where three decision systems are being used at the same time (AskItShareIt, the chat itself, and the comics). That brought numerous problems with it.
Now, if that wasn't enough. The game had gotten so big that I hit a bug within Unity (not really Unity, but Gradle, but let's not make it more technical) that stopped the game from compiling. Some time went out to fix that as well. Right after that, I got hit with the fact that Android APKs larger than 4GB do not install unless you have the newest phone or whatever, and even then it's iffy. Great. Now I am in a battle of keeping the file size smaller than 4GB. How hard can it be? Pretty damn hard, it seems.
After trying multiple compression methods (some really messed up the images), I settled on one but still needed to remove some content to make sure it all fit. Throw in more bugs, and this was just a complete disaster.
Now, what also took a long time was documenting and noting every problem I ran into (or problematic code) and designing a way to fix it. I have a redesign planned and will be spending most of v0.24's dev cycle to implement that. It should solve all issues regarding installer size, add some quality of life improvements, and provide a new backend which will be a solid foundation for future games and updates.
In hindsight, if I had started with the rework immediately, I would have been long done by now. But yeah, hindsight is 20/20.
Again, I apologize and thank you all. If it wasn't for your continued support and encouragement, this would have taken ages. Huge shout out to Cenor as well for not only bug testing but also listening to my rants whenever I ran into a problem. He saved you all the headache. 😂
I will be taking a couple of days off to regroup so I can continue on the next update.
I hope you all enjoy the update. You deserve it!
Cheers to you! 🍷
