If box office totals are to be believed I was the one person who paid for a ticket to see Masters of the Universe. It wasn't a bad movie, though it was far from a great one too. Still this latest iteration of He-Man has sent me back to my pencils.

The film has a pretty good muscle growth scene despite Prince Adam and He-Man sharing the same build. A nod to the original cartoon and toys, I suppose, where both He-Man and Prince Adam used the same mold.

There was a brief She-Ra tease as well. If we got a transformation sequence on par with the one from Masters of the Universe it would be an all timer, but given the poor box office I wouldn't hold out hope for a solo She-Ra film, let alone one with a $170 million dollar budget. The irony is that She-Ra was probably poised post-Barbie to be the safer bet to catch on with audiences. ND Stevenson's Netflix adaptation was the last thing in the franchise to "hit". The version of She-Ra in Masters of the Universe was the 80s design though. No complaints from me.

There was also a running sight gag built around "HR" and pronouns. That stuff can get cringe pretty quick, but Masters of the Universe didn't really follow up on it. They set up the jokes but were too afraid to use a punchline so they're just there.

I tend to avoid that too, I haven't seen anyone do it well, but having slept on it, just the ridiculousness of it is kinda dumb fun.

This is a lot of words to say I may slip in a transformation sequence in the next week or two that's a play on the film.
