This drawing wasn't planned either... but the reason I ended up drawing it is!

Just a few days ago, Guianan Cock-of-the-rocks became a little trend on Japanese social media (Twitter) with a mysterious vibe. Those of you who use Twitter and follow some Japanese artists might already know about it by now. However, based on the results of the last survey ([ poll ] About social media), there aren't many X users here anymore, so there might be many of you who don't know.

Anyway, after drawing the falcon, I was in a bird mood, so I did a rough sketch as usual. But I liked the shape of the doodle right away, so I just went ahead and colored it in.

The two with black rims on their crests are Guianan Cock-of-the-rocks, and the three with darker wings are Andean Cock-of-the-rocks. They are all males, and the females have a plain appearance. They are cute guys who eat fruit and dance.

There are two types of Cock-of-the-rocks, and I wanted to draw not only the trendy birds (Guianan Cock-of-the-rock) but also Andean Cock-of-the-rocks.

Their baby birds are really cool 😂 I highly recommend looking up some photos.

You can find some pictures if you search on Google. : Google search link

It wasn't until after I uploaded the picture that I realized this bird's English name is weird. In my language, it just reads like "rock chicken" 😂 A cartoon from when I drew tits in 2000..

I’ll show you the artistic considerations I had while drawing this and the WIP GIF process!

First, the very first sketch

I liked that their heads looked huge because of their crest, And it's cute because it's chubby. The front view is also attractive.

I really liked this shape. It made me want to color it right away.

WIP GIF

This was the original finished image. But I changed it near the last stage!

At this stage, I first considered the background color.

I originally used yellow, but pastel pink looked pretty because it was soft. Dark colors also looked nice. Dark colors give off a more mysterious vibe. But I chose yellow again because I've been using pastel pink too much lately, though.

Then I changed their eye.

This eye might be a little scary, but I think it's funnier. Originally, this bird's eyes are blue, yellow, or red, but I made them white because there was a suggestion that they would be too scary.

I liked the initial cheerful yellow atmosphere, so I changed the background again.

I thought a lot about the feel of these eyes.

Then I showed the eyes I had originally drawn again and thought of ways to make it more interesting.

So I decided to make a GIF.

The eyes change in three stages.

So that I can show the cuteness, fun, and mystery of this bird at the same time.

Thanks for watching!
