I would say my opinion of steel personal worn body armor is that ceramics and composites have effectively replaced it in almost all situations with possibly the exception of needing an ultra thing covert setup.
From my understanding this HighCom AR1000 is from "Armox". What model, I am not sure, but it must I would imagine it's over a standard Brinell hardness of over 500? Whatever it is, it did very well against M193 at speeds of over 3,300 fps. Even M855A1 needed a 16" barrel. More impressive is that we've used the 6.8 RRA to defeat PE armor, and even those 4SAS4 plates, but they were stopped cold. The surrogate 6.8 GP rounds blasted through these at 45' and even cracked the plate behind it, but were unable to penetrate at 100 yds. Now I had to hand load those, and I've been trying to find concrete data on XM1186 to know what velocity I should be at. This is the first plate I think I've taken the curve out of them from the shear muzzle energy :D
This time both TS and CT have these. I debated asking TS to sponsor this video, but their customer from the whole 4SAS4, has me hesistant. Highcom is discontinuing this plate and getting out of steel. Once these are gone, that's it. They are NIJ CPL'd
