What Story Should I Focus On?

DESCRIPTION

Hey everyone, I'm making this as poll/post as a follow up to my previous Update. I'll be keeping the poll open exclusively for the paid members for a few days before opening it to the free members too so that I can accurately gauge everyone's overall opinion. Sorry if I get a bit long-winded as I'm speaking from the heart here and I'm genuinely in need of all of your opinions to decide what to do next so I hope you all read and vote carefully. So as you all are aware, Divide and Conquer is completed for the Patreon officially at 37 chapters (and the public threads are at Chapter 31), and for the past few months I've been having a bit of a crisis in my writing to be completely honest. For a very long time I got extremely invested in my Star Wars fic, The Force Shall Free Me (SW Sith Anakin AU) and poured a lot of love and passion into crafting its story, themes, characters, and worldbuilding etc. During that time I may or may not have made a mistake (depending on who you ask) to switch it from an SI fic to a more traditional AU but this has potentially backfired on me. Granted it is still early days yet but with 3 chapters out on Patreon and 2 on the public threads, the feedback and etc has been disappointing. Those who do read the story seem to all love it barring a few minor criticisms (and I want to thank everyone again who does read and love it from the bottom of my heart) but the problem seems to be getting people to actually read it to begin with. The primary reasons I've gotten for not reading it is either because it's SW/Not ASOIAF, or because it's not an SI, or both.Perhaps I was too ambitious and I made a mistake in switching up my established style too much, too fast. Especially as I have basically built my writing career on ASOIAF SI stories. At the very least I am starting to think it was a mistake to switch away both the franchise AND the SI at the same time. It should have been one or the other, definitely not both. And seeing how popular SIs are on forums, that is probably what I should have kept in hindsight. I've gone into my reasons for making TFSFM an AU instead of an SI before and I won't repeat them here to save length and time but in a nutshell I am starting to grow increasingly worried that the story will never reach the level of popularity I am hoping for. Not to be shallow or anything but my stories having some basic level of popularity is a huge muse and motivator that helped me complete all my stories so far and with how increasingly busy my time is getting with university and likely a job afterward, I don't want to dedicate precious time to a project that isn't maximizing its potential.Tbch the disappointing ROI on TFSFM so far has dampened tremendously my mood for both SW and for that fic also. I don't want to abandon it because I hate abandoning stories but the idea of continuing it as it is and things not improving in terms of how well it's doing is pretty soulcrushing.Concurrently to all of this, my passion for ASOIAF which had been in decline for so long has been jumpstarted back to life by AKOTSK (I wish that came out earlier bruh) and so many of my friends and other authors etc really getting back into ASOIAF because of it and all going gung ho and planning fics. Commenters on The King of Knights on AO3 also gave me a diabolical story idea that seemed like pure crack to me at first but has honestly taken hold of me and is consuming most of my creative passion for planning and brainstorming (when I'm not busy with uni work that is) right now. That idea is as follows:Dragonlance (ASOIAF Daeron II SI): In another world, Daeron II would have spent the entirety of his father's reign meekly watching as his bastard brother was raised up to be his rival and then spend his own reign kowtowing to Dorne until it led him into a war with said brother. Being reborn as him of all people was not on my bingo list. I'm not content to just marry a Martell and wait around for Daemon Blackfyre to try and usurp me though. In fact, instead of fighting Daemon Blackfyre, why don't I just father him?!The idea honestly solves a lot of the issues I was starting to feel when writing some of D&C after High Tide and that was the feeling of repeating things too much. This story idea though is well unique in the era, in the character I'm using, it being a first-person POV SI for once in my fics since I don't care about overwriting Daeron II of all people, and definitely a lot more crackish (and possibly smutty too) than I've ever tried before so it interests me in that aspect. I've been so passionate about it I even have an outline with 11 chapters planned out of it on the Discord Server already.A huge part of that passion also comes because I have a strong feeling that many of you will love it. Especially those of you that kept asking for me to do another ASOIAF SI fic because that's why you started following me to begin with and/or you know I'm good at them. Who knows, with my returning passion and interest for ASOIAF, I might even look and consider doing other eras and character SIs too in ASOIAF after Dragonlance but we shall deffo have to wait and see for that lol. Then I think of the fact that I already started a SW story and get all twisted up lol. Really regret that I didn't think of this idea and have my ASOIAF passions restored sooner. I've never dropped a story or put it on an overly long hiatus before and I don't really want to start now but I'm wondering if maybe for my own ability to commit and be happy with what I'm writing and with the story's performance, I need to at least take a step back and reevaluate if TFSFM really works as it is right now. Narratively and on a technical level I do still believe my AU plan for the story works perfectly but perhaps in order to maximize its potential and restore my motivation to complete it I need to give up on that and convert it back into an SI. However with 3 chapters already written based entirely on it not being an SI and so much of the planning dedicated to it not being an SI, it would take tremendous work to redo those chapters and plans and that's time and passion I really don't have right now, especially since I promised you all a chapter within the next few weeks (and I really wanna get one out anyway too). Hence after this very long post and I hope you all are still reading, we finally come to the question of the poll. I think I'll divide this into two options and depending on which option you pick, there will be a follow up poll.Option A) I write TFSFM Chapter 4 as usual for the Dragon tier, with its AU aspects and current story plans completely untouched and we continue with the plan to try and make for the full backlog so that Divide and Conquer can finish. Business as usual.Option B) This is what I'm really leaning to right now, I write Dragonlance Chapter 1 instead and everyone in the Dragon tier can read it to get a feel for the story and if they're interested in it. If the majority picks Option B, we would then have a follow up poll after Dragonlance Chapter 1 is released that will, based on how Dragonlance is received, allow you all to pick between a number of options such as putting TFSFM on Hiatus to focus solely on Dragonlance first, to keep TFSFM as an AU or take advantage of a hiatus to replan the story and convert it back into an SI, to try and figure out some kind of system where Dragonlance and TFSFM (as an AU) are both written and the Dragon Tier votes for which fic gets updated next after every update, or to just put Dragonlance on hiatus and TFSFM (as an AU) is the sole main story.
