I often see people discuss ways in which the dragon creator can be used outside of the game itself, such as for other artworks, covers, drawing references or 3D printing. In this post I want to address these other use cases and generally what you can and can't do.Using it as reference for drawing or other kinds of artworks is of course fine, but for commercial works such as the cover of a book meant to be sold, the design can't be a 1:1 copy of the created dragon, in the same way you couldn't directly use a design from some other fantasy IP. It can still be used for coming up with a design as the foundation for a paint over or reference to be expanded upon though. For use cases where the actual model is used, currently there is no way to get it out of the game easily, and even if you managed to rip it from the GPU it wouldn't looks as good outside of its natural habitat. It would lack a lot of detail if you tried to 3D print it for example, because most of the surface detail is in the textures. I still really like the idea of being able to print custom dragons though, so one potential addition for the future is being able to export dragon models from the game at a higher resolution suitable for 3D printing.
