Hey everyone, got a bit more of a substantive update on what the plans are for the Watchcast for the foreseeable future. As you've likely guessed by his continued absence, Brad is still out, and we're expecting him to be for a while. We were already planning on being out of the office next week, and the following week Vinny and I will return, but Brad is not expected to be around by that point. It's not my place to give more details beyond that, but suffice it to say we completely understand his absence, and wish him the best while he's gone.
Most of our content we can find guests for and fill in the gaps as needed, but the Watchcast has traditionally had all three of us, especially when we're tackling something like Star Trek. So, until Brad's ready to rejoin us, Star Trek Summer will have to wait. However, we do want to try to fill the Watchcast gap when we come back from break, so for at least the return episode, we're doing a movie a good friend of ours has been pitching for some time. It is none other than...
Monday, July 13th: Twilight (2008)
That's right. Abby Russell has been asking to do this movie with us for longer than I can recall, and I think considering how much of her time she's given to us over the years, this is the very least we can do. And to be honest? I'm weirdly interested in revisiting this one. I haven't watched any of these movies since Rorie and I marathoned them for Screened (ah, the salad years). And I think it will be good to talk about this movie with someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about it, versus just us cranky old men who don't traditionally make time for teen vampire melodramas.
Here's where you can watch Twilight for this momentous occasion.
Now, as of this moment we are not planning on doing the whole series back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back. I'm thinking emergency Twilight Watchcasts might become a regular thing when we need to fill a gap week, so you can look forward to me stretching those across as much time as possible, always leaving the looming threat of Edward and Bella hanging like a confusingly horny Sword of Damocles. We're also hoping that by the time the Twilight episode airs we'll have more clarity on how long our compatriot will be out and will plan accordingly. We'll announce what the future schedule is as we get closer to Twilight Time, so until then, sit tight, and we thank you for your patience as we navigate this understandable disruption.
