There are forgotten game franchises, and then there are franchises that have been deliberately buried.
For years, the Fracture-verse series of games sat firmly in the second category.
Back in the early 2000s, developer Severance Systems built one of the strangest shared universes in gaming. It was a sprawling collection of interconnected titles that jumped genres without warning. One game might be a brutal first-person shooter, the next a slow-burn sci-fi horror experience, and another a post-apocalyptic survival sim.
Titles like Tech Reign, Fracture: The Fall, and Syndicate’s Wake all revolved around a mysterious phenomenon known only as The Fracture. Each game in the series explored a different timeline, region, or event, and hidden threads connected them all.
The series’ appeal to gamers was in how aggressively mysterious the games were. They rarely ever explained themselves outright, instead relying on players piecing together the lore through corrupted audio logs, item descriptions, unfinished assets, and environmental clues buried deep within the world itself.
Then, at the height of its popularity, the Fracture-verse collapsed.
After an infamously disastrous attempt to pivot towards VR development - a project that many industry insiders later described as “years beyond what the technology could realistically support” - Severance Systems folded.
Shards of Time, the most critically-panned entry to the series, had burned through resources which led to the bankruptcy of Severance Systems itself. Fans revolted, developers were laid off, and the Fracture-verse IP quietly disappeared into the hands of publisher Horizons Entertainment - a company infamous for acquiring struggling studios and letting their properties fade into obscurity.
For nearly a decade, that was effectively the end of the story.
The Fracture-verse community barely survived through scattered modding projects, forum posts, and a shrinking cult following that refused to let the game die. Outside of the occasional merchandising attempt, Horizons did virtually nothing with the franchise. The community slowly went dormant.
Enter “Z3ke”, a new user who showed up on DeepFracture, the last active message board dedicated to the series.
At first glance, posts from Z3ke looked to be a standard internet roleplay. He claimed to have somehow been “isekai’d” into the world of Frontiers, one of the franchise’s most beloved games. He began documenting his attempts to survive inside the setting while simultaneously communicating with the forum through an in-universe device.
While most gaming communities would have instantly dismissed the fanfiction premise, DeepFracture and the rest of the fandom was starving for new material. Material that “Z3ke” quickly provided.
He referenced obscure locations, half-forgotten mechanics, and lore implications tied to abandoned game assets that many players barely remembered existed. Stranger still, users began verifying his more outlandish claims.
What initially looked like a poorly written creative project, slowly transformed into one of the strangest community-wide investigations that gaming has seen in years.
The turning point came when “Z3ke” described an alternate route hidden inside an infamous Frontiers dungeon that the community had considered solved for over a decade. Veteran players claimed to have already dissected every known path through the area.
But “Z3ke” was adamant and forum users began testing the theory. To everyone’s surprise, dataminers uncovered evidence of hidden trigger conditions buried deep in the game’s code. Overnight, the dormant forum began to revive.
That alone would have been enough to reignite interest in the long-dead franchise. But “Z3ke” kept posting.
The account introduced new theories surrounding beloved NPCs, uncovered references to cut storylines, hinted at a hidden stat mechanic, and connected fragmented lore threads that players had argued about for years. Every time the community attempted to disprove a post, someone would uncover another strange detail hidden inside the old files.
The community was revived. Dataminers returned. Lore YouTubers uploaded videos for the first time in years. Modders resumed work on abandoned restoration projects. Former fans reinstalled decade-old games just to test theories for themselves.
One anonymous account posting fanfiction had accidentally resurrected one of gaming’s most obsessive lore communities.
Then came the Janus Storm Arc.
Longtime Frontiers and Syndicate’s Wake players will immediately recognize the Janus Storm: a colossal roaming superstorm that periodically swallowed entire regions of the map. It functioned as both an environmental hazard and world-building device. It was terrifying, mysterious, and clearly unfinished. For years, most players assumed it was simply cut content that was left partially implemented by Severance Systems before the studio collapsed.
“Z3ke” proposed something far stranger. According to his fanfiction, the Janus Storm was never intended to be weather at all. Instead, it was designed as a massive pod created by a man, and it was to act as a massive containment system surrounding what his posts referred to as “A Second Fracture.”
Yes, it sounds insane. No, the community has not proven it. And no, none of the former Severance developers have publicly commented on the theory.
Yet that uncertainty is exactly why the story has spread so far. At this point, the real fascination in the story is no longer the fanfiction itself, it is the reaction surrounding it. A fandom that has been dormant for years is suddenly alive again, debating theories with the same intensity it had in the franchise’s prime.
Some users are convinced “Z3ke” is a former developer using a burner account. Others believe the account somehow obtained internal design documents. Plenty insist it’s simply an exceptionally well-researched creative writing project written by someone deeply familiar with the games.
The truth is, nobody seems completely sure anymore. And maybe that uncertainty is the most Fracture-verse thing imaginable.
The series always thrived on ambiguity. Its worlds were fragmented by design. They had incomplete histories, contradictory timelines, unexplained phenomena, and lore that constantly raised more questions than answers.
Maybe “Z3ke” is uncovering abandoned ideas left buried in the files. Maybe “Z3ke” is simply stitching together disconnected pieces of lore into a more compelling narrative than the original developers ever managed to create. Or maybe the line between fanfiction and canon stopped mattering the moment the community came back to life.
Whatever the explanation is, one thing is undeniable. People are talking about the Fracture-verse again.

Hey everyone, I think it’s finally time to address the biggest problem with Z3ke’s story. It’s not the horrors, it’s not the fact he created a Second Fracture, it’s not the fact that he is talking about events that are stuck behind Syndicate’s Wake and we can’t fact-check him.
The biggest problem with his story is the music. This man has somehow discovered the supernatural combat applications of Dad Rock, and now everyone who is reading through his updates is being forced to suffer through it.
At this point, Zeke is basically a divorced 47-year-old uncle who owns three different toolboxes and says things like “they don’t make music like this anymore.”
So, for the betterment of the story, to help brainstorm songs that might actually help him survive, and to publicly shame his musical tastes, I have created this thread.
Since neither Z3ke nor any of us fully understand how the Rockstar class actually works yet, you can all put your theories here too. Right now, the working theory seems that song choice matters, emotional intent matters, lyrics might matter, and maybe sincerity matters.
What songs should Z3ke actually be using? What buffs do you think they trigger? And more importantly, how do we stop this man from emotionally assaulting everyone with Gen X music?

A) Do songs about exploring help with investigation skills or just distract?
B) Can songs about getting lucky help during those or when taking risky actions (maybe when trying a new technique to getting home? Maybe added luck might help then)?
C) I’m still wondering which songs can heal like Venerated mentioned in his explanation post.
D) Since this feels a bit like magic, maybe songs might even help with things that aren’t really alive? Maybe a song about keeping spirits up or doing one last try can help computers reboot or function, or process info quicker. Maybe it can help a truck stay in one piece over long difficult terrain when it would have otherwise broken apart (like the “going merry” boat in one piece)?
E) Can it help with hunger pains? Does the energy from singing and playing and doing the magic, can an infusion of determination/ability to push on through or ignore hunger more than compensate that? (not that you should ever need to, if you can keep food in your hammer space.)

Hey gaga, in answer to your question, I don’t think we really know the limits of the Rockstar class.
Most skills scale pretty predictably. Take Shooting for example. Rank 3 gives you some accuracy. Rank 6 gives you specialized mastery. Rank 10 means you’re deleting people from a different zip code.
But Rockstar doesn’t seem to work that way. All his skills seem way more synergistic than other class skills we’ve seen before. He’s got Performance, Instrument Mastery, and Persona. None of those skills is all that impressive on its own, but Zeke has been writing about how it feels when they combine and flow through the music.
That’s why the class is so weird and, I think it’s why none of us are going to really get a good answer until he updates more. Honestly, I don’t think we’re going to understand his class until all three of his skills hit Rank 7+ simultaneously.
Also, a lot of what you’re talking about seems pretty magical, but most of the effects we’ve seen so far are still relatively grounded. Don’t come at me, I know what I just wrote. But think about it.
He boosted the emotions of the Black Teeth. He helped Jackie maintain her focus while driving. He reduced the panic of both Jackie and Elnor, and he increased Elnor’s hand-eye coordination. None of that is super magical in the same way that throwing a fireball would be.
The big thing that he did was kill the Second Fracture, but we can explain it away by talking about the glyphs and how they interacted with the music.
In short, I think we’re not going to see what he is really capable of until much later in the story.

Given how often Elnor collapses and overloads his brain, perhaps Zeke should learn some songs (buffs) that calm people down. Like some ballads (or something). The question is what kind of ‘rock’ songs would fit his Gen X tastes? Maybe “In the Court of the Crimson King” or “Stairway to Heaven”?

Thinking about this - it might be worth it to give Zeke some tabs from Dethklok songs. Go Into the Water, Go Forth and Die, and in a true emergency Awaken.
Honestly there are a bunch of metal songs that could be extremely effective - I have been thinking maybe some Bathory? Or if you wanted to you could do Dragonforce’s Through the Fire and the Flames to hopefully get him out of an extremely tight situation.

Here is the problem as I understand it. Zeke can’t just watch a video or mp3 linked to the forum. So the best suggestions are tabs for songs he already knows. While game OST and more recent tracks might be cool, if he has never heard of them, he probably will not be able to bust them out in a hurry and let his skills take the wheel. He would most likely need to practice them.

HAAA. I just thought about how stealth mechanics would work with the Rockstar class.
Imagine Zeke crouched in cover and his team is trying to stealth through a bunker. Then the opening riff of Careless Whisper starts echoing through the bunker. Or he could be trying to infiltrate a scavenger hideout and he’s just blasting Smooth Criminal.

I think you all are overfocusing on the lyrics. Maybe it is more the tone of the song, and what Zeke associates with it.
Think about the songs that we’ve already seen. He played Free Bird in the Chapel Pit and that had to have reminded him of the church scene in Kingsman when everyone was fighting. Black Betty was fast paced and it perfectly matched with a chase song. Then the DOOM soundtrack was basically made to get people excited about executing demons by the carload.
What if his songs create emotional states that affect not only him, but everything around him?

I went through everything that Z3ke has written, from the beginning of his tale all the way to his latest updates. It’s not just individual songs that I posted. It’s all about narrative progression. I’ve been matching his updates to different songs that I think he would subconsciously choose during different phases of the story. I’ve been doing it ever since the Glens arc.

I’ve avoided making this thread for a while now because the last lore thread I made about Zeke’s fanfic became…messy. Also, whenever someone tries to explain the wider Fracture cosmology, this forum immediately turns into a warzone.
Now that Zeke wrote about the Janus Storm and a “Second Fracture,” I have finally bit the bullet. I genuinely believe that we need to revisit the single biggest question in the franchise after what he posted.
What actually IS a Fracture?
I no longer believe that they are separate and isolated phenomena. I think that every single Fracture we’ve seen across the breadth of the games is connected to a single larger event. And I think that Zeke is eventually going to find that event.
For all you new people who’ve shown up after that article blew up, the oldest ongoing theory in the fandom is that every game in the Fracture-verse is either 1) on a different timeline of the same world or 2) a completely separate reality that is connected through the Fracture.
Emberveil is a world where folklore and myth and magic is real. The Fracture created a whole bunch of different creatures from pixies to werewolves to vampires. It also managed to get magic to leak into the world and people in the setting can shoot lightning out of their fingertips.
Frontiers is all about an ecosystem being rewritten by an alien virus. There are mutating environments and biological corruption and everything is constantly changing.
Null Protocol is all about corporate hypercapitalism running amok, a dystopian world that places zero worth on the individual, and an ancient and unknowable machine found deep under the crust of the planet that was activated and broke everything.
All of those worlds have different rules and different histories and different evolutionary paths. BUT, I believe that Zeke is going to eventually explain how the Fractures all mix together, what created them, what purpose they serve, and how each game is connected.
Toss out your theories on what the Fractures are. Suggest what you think Zeke is going to find. And if any of us are in-line to become one of his Primaries, we should also start planning on where we can send Zeke so he will uncover more lore about the Fractures.
We should also start theorizing about what exactly the Second Fracture tells us about the wider cosmology of the world.

So the question is why are all these related alternate realities getting hit with different Fracture events resulting in diverging post-apocalyptic timelines? We have what looked like a failed attempt at War of the Worlds with an alien virus resulting in magical shenanigans and a dungeon break setting, a world where the Masquerade breaks and supernatural shenanigans are common place, and a Cybernetic Rebellion resulting in Cyberpunk 2077. And all the worlds are interconnected so you could travel to each setting...something fishy is going on, especially when you have people, items and tech getting deliberately yoinked from everywhere and everywhen.

I've been thinking that the Fracture is a kind of...filter or "meta" phenomenon that persists throughout the narrative of multiple worlds like an artificial law imposed for one reason or another. The cause of the Fracture isn't as important as the fact that it happens.
As if it were a kind of Ragnarok or a hard-coded trigger destined to activate when certain conditions are met.
If the Fracture were a kind of Convergence Point from which readings could be obtained (because the even itself defies causality and has a quantum trail or some nonsense like that) and predicted probabilistically...then it would make sense that there would be organizations that, by playing with super science, could obtain privileged information through various means.
I think we've lost sight of the big picture, and one of the key points we might be missing is that we're focusing too much on the Fracture itself (its causes) and not on why it happens.

That's a good point. Why are the Fractures happening? We know what causes the Fractures, and we know how the world responds. But instead of a failed time line ala FGO Lost Belt, we're getting split, interconnected timelines for a main, stable timeline that will auto split off that Fracture event into its own timeline while the rest of the world keeps moving on. I wonder if there's a metaphysical reason for this.

What if every region has its own “theme” for its Fracture because the Fracture adapts to local belief systems? Emberveil got folklore because there were a bunch of people that were talking about vampires or something. Frontiers got biological mutation because it is basically post-apocalyptic Australia and you have to wonder what is in the water down there.
Maybe the Fractures evolve differently depending on where it manifests?
