The dust hung thick in the air, raining down from above and swirling through the streets like a river. Colin couldn’t see a damn thing. He couldn’t breathe either. Coughing and spluttering he pulled his T-shirt over his mouth and ran for cover through the nearest doorway he could. Turns out it was a hotel. A fancy one. The lobby was full of people were cowering in groups. Families, friends, huddling together. It seems like everyone was coming in to get out of the streets. There were frequent tremors that shook the building, eliciting cries and whimpers from the sheltering crowd.
Colin had to see what was up. Being mindful not to take the elevator he found a stairwell and sprinted upwards. People were still running down the stairs, some carrying suitcases, others carrying loved ones. After five floors Colin stuck his head through a doorway. It was just an empty corridor. After another ten he was getting out of breath, but still just another corridor. Then in another five, on the twentieth floor he reach the roof. He slammed into the fire door and out into the open air again. The dust wasn’t as thick up here, and he felt the sun on his face. What he saw stopped him in his tracks. Looking out across the city towards the beach he saw… legs. Like towers reaching up above the buildings, sets of legs reached far up into the sky. Following one pair with his eyes he saw a woman, vast beyond his comprehension. She was middle aged with a mousy coloured bob. She was wearing a two piece swimsuit, and she looked pissed. Then he saw others. Three… no four, gigantic woman. All in swimsuits, all slowly making their way towards each other. Every step was an earthquake, throwing up clouds of dust, pulverising streets and demolishing buildings.
“KAIT”
Colin covered his ears as the deafening sound of one of their voices hit him like a clap of thunder.
“KAIT, I SWEAR TO GOD IF THIS MAKES ME MISS HAPPY HOUR I’M GONNA BE PISSED.”
