Both these characters are the same person, before and after she is cleaned up.
Sage is a hermit, once an apprentice that accidentally killed their Mistress. Sage resides in the swamp surrounding the academy, where witches and wizards discard unwanted potions, infusing the swamp with many magical properties and creatures.
Sage gets wrapped up in shenanigans when Rue and Elyas go to her for help to get what they want most: A day off.
