I've been busy coloring in the comic pages, but I also got carried away with figuring out how plate armor works π I promise I'll do something proper with all this newly found understanding.
It's interesting though, when I was drawing these it kinda dawned on me why armor is simultaneously interesting to draw but also hard for me to fully grasp: I think it's simply just because I've never worn one or properly looked inside it/pulled it apart. With anatomy, well, I have a body, I can imagine how poses would feel and what arm position seems impossible. With clothes, I wear them, and I've made clothing from scratch so I know where seams might be and what piece connects where and how. But with plate armor I have absolutely no idea how the metal works, how intricate it can be, how many moving parts there are, what kind of connections there are between pieces, how the pieces stay in place and won't slip out and get locked into the wrong position---I could come up with and endless list of things I don't understand and not understanding affects the drawing process surprisingly lot πBut this has been so super helpful for my brain, I'm moving closer to getting some of it. Idk how useful it'll be in the long run, I'm not planning on turning into exclusively knight smut archive (unless...π), but I guess it's artistically fulfilling to feel like I'm actively learning something new!
