Recently my faith in the 365 has been wavering. I still believe it is a fine gun that will meet the needs of most users. I want to find an alternative for hard use.
Why? Maintenance on the gun is more costly and less predictable than I’d like it to be. Recoil springs aren’t cheap and need to be replaced at least every 5k. I’ve seen them go faster. In addition to that, I’ve now shattered several trigger return springs- both were surprise incidents that left me with a dead gun. The problem could be avoided by tracking my dry fire presses in addition to my live fire routine- but I don’t like to pay that level of attention. Most will never use their guns frequently enough to care. I do 🤷♂️
Broken springs:
The reset spring on the 365 undergoes a compression cycle with every press of the trigger- regardless of whether it’s live or dry fire, or even if the slide is racked. The springs have both failed inside 5k live fire. I don’t know why my first spring lasted so long and the replacements didn’t, but it makes me uneasy about continuing on with the gun. I bought a handful of +10% springs which nicely addresses the trigger weight that is too light for my taste, but no matter how beefy the spring, a compression cycle with every trigger press and a healthy dry fire routine will create failures.
This has me carrying either the Glock 19 or the bodyguard 2 when I want to deep carry an auto. Neither meet my needs as well as the 365x does. The p365x is the sweet spot for size/weight/shooting performance. I’m holding out for a CC9 and will snag one when I can find a reasonable price. I refuse to pay more than retail and I’m fine waiting for the initial batch WC and manufacturing defects to emerge and be addressed.
Until then, you will likely see me with the 19 or BG2 in videos. I’m still loving the LCR22 and carry it frequently. I’ve exhaustively shot it and I’m not sure there’s much more I need to demo or any additional performance I can wring out of the little workhorse.
As for the 365x, I’ll still recommend it, but I’ll now add the caveat that a new return spring should be used frequently and that heavy use shooters would be wise to have a separate carry gun clone of their trainer if they plan on shooting and dry firing frequently.
Now that I’m using a 365 remote on ACEVR, my dry fire with the gun has dropped to almost zero as I am finding the game offers more than my dry fire sessions. That may be another viable option for users that intend to heavily dry fire.
