As you know, this month I'm sharing an EP of PJ Harvey covers.
As some of you may know, she's one of my favourite all time artists, and has been for years, so I feel it's about time for this tribute.

Funnily enough, back in 2018, Birdeatsbaby actually already did a cover of It's You with harp, drums and guitars.

This new EP is much more stripped back, piano and vocals only, and everything has been captured live rather than multi-tracked.
It's got a nice, raw sound to it and some excellent mixing from Garry so I'm very proud it.

A little background on this - my proper obsession with PJ started on tour, a few years back in 2017.
We spent several weeks in a van, driving across the USA, on endless motorways that felt like forever. We rarely slept, we drank every day, barely ate... looking back now I don't know how we got through it!
My personal life was in such turmoil and I didn't want to go home to face it. The tour van became my escape, and my refuge.

Anyway, PJ Harvey songs kept appearing on the speakers, on the band's playlists, or whenever we hit shuffle, and at some point it felt less like coincidence and more like the universe trying to tell me something.
Her lyrics hit me very hard, stuck in the van contemplating my life choices. I had many secret cries, hiding on the back seats, writing depressing lyrics. Part of me actually wanted to die.
It was a painful time, but there's also something quite comforting about never-ending travelling, I've always felt like as long as we kept moving I wouldn't have to face things - life was simple as long as we were on tour.
Skip several years to now - the happy and healthy version of me was was asked to play at a PJ Harvey covers night - so naturally I said yes! It was a little difficult to choose songs as there are so many I love, but I chose the ones that are most personal to me, and the ones that got me through that tour.
