Hello Humans,
Welcome to February. My birthday month!
In a few days time I turn the grand age of 41... which is surreal as I still act like a child with a microphone 😆
However, before then, it's time to open the door to something new.
BEHIND THE VEIL - NEW TV SERIES!
Today I’m releasing Episode One of my new series Behind The Veil, a Patreon-only series where I take you properly behind the scenes of what it's like to walk in my shoes.
The video series is similar to my monthly vlogs, but they are more focused, more honest and have a clear, running theme for each episode.
This one is called "What Do The Gods Want?" (a lyric from ACCEPT, Crimson Veil).
I felt my previous vlogs were a little cluttered and clumsy, so I sat down with my wonderful video editor, Matas and we've come up Behind The Veil - A Documentary TV Series, starring your host - Mishkin.
I've always been quite open about my artistic process, but this year I want to dive even deeper into my personal life, and let you experience even more Behind The Veil moments. There's a lot that goes on in the life of a musician, and sometimes those moments can be hard to share, as I navigate between the stage/online version of myself, and the vulnerable human underneath. I feel this space is a safe place I can really express both sides.
I love this Patreon community so much and it's incredibly important for me to be able to share myself as I am - completely honestly, so sometimes the content might be brutally honest and totally unfiltered - but knowing you guys, I'm sure you will enjoy getting to know the real me a little better ☺️
This first episode follows the writing and recording process of the songs: WOMB, MENACE & ACCEPT from Crimson Veil's upcoming album. We’re capturing death growls, cathedral organ, giant gongs, vibraphones and a choir of Mishkins! Anna Mylee plays all the percussion on this album, it was truly incredible to witness.
There’s something sacred about recording live music, and I genuinely love to capture live, organic sounds over virtual, synthesised sounds. I hope you agree?
When you listen back to the finished recorded music, you are suddently transported to the place where you captured it, and who you were at that time. I love creating strong musical memories.
This episode is about the thousands of hours and multiple layers that go into an album of this magnitude! I have never been prouder of a piece of work.
We also have a look into: The Photoshoot.
I take you behind the scenes with my photographer Scott Chalmers as we build a new visual identity for my solo work.
It's not just outfits and lighting, this is about trying to be seen clearly without turning into a product. It's incredibly awkward and yet at the same time empowering. I both love and hate the photoshoot - what I have in my mind is rarely what comes out but it's about accepting yourself through your own eyes. This shoot was definitely about me being who I am, minimal makeup, a raw version of myself that I'm finally comfotable with.
As I grow into the next version of myself I've tried to capture who I am right now through these next set of photographs... can't wait to share them with you, here's a sneaky preview:
Behind The Veil is about what it actually means to be an artist in motion, including all the unseen labour, the excitement, the constant balance between belief and doubt.
I hope you enjoy it! Let me know your thoughts.

"MARCELLE" - A NEW EP
Later this month, patrons will receive an exclusive three-track EP titled Marcelle.
As you know, these songs are built around stories from my grandmother, who passed away in 2024. During our final months together, I recorded some of our conversations. Her voice appears in these tracks as introductions, framing the music.
You've heard God of Neither and Enough. The 3rd and final song is called Roots, and the whole thing has been remixed, mastered, with the addition of my grandma's voice coming through the songs.
This EP holds grief and love in a way I’ve never experienced before, the songs are still moving me to tears when I hear them. I look forward to sharing them with you at the end of the month.
Thank you for being in this space with me, and for supporting the work while it’s still becoming...
Love,Mishkin
PS - I'm on tour with Hana Piranha all month - if you want to come see me live the showdates are here.
