Hello Humans,

It’s the end of another month, which means - new music for you.

WHITE ROOM

In a white room, with black curtains...

As you all know, this month's release is a Cream cover of the song, White Room.

Have a listen to the original, if you don't already know it, it's a great song.

The song was originally released in 1968, with lyrics from poet Pete Brown, relating to his personal experience fighting his demons during a detox from alcohol.

Although that is not what I was drawn to when selecting this cover, I was happy to know that this song involved recovery too.

I particularly like the odd time measures, descending triplet lines and stylish chord progression.

Now let's dive into the cover version...

Silver horses, ran down moonbeams, in your dark eyes

Apologies - for now you’ll have to see this release as the “almost finished” version. We found the cover to be a lot more challenging than we expected...

Working with Third Bloom is always a bit like constructing a collage over time, as you can see his visual work is very much like this:

Sometimes the collage comes together quickly and effortlessly, with the pieces guiding you, and sometimes, the pieces just don't fit together, and you end up trying too many different ideas, instruments, re-structuring and re-assembling until you get a little bit lost.

After hours and hours of recording, arranging and then tweaking, we got there in the end but we both feel there is more to do before it's truly ready.

The other main main challenge was to try and make this song a completely different genre, at a much slower speed and with far less chords.

Plus, we only gave ourselves only this month to do it, so we had a strict deadline.

Tired starlings...

Have a listen and download the song here: DOWNLOAD

The video here is more of a teaser - the final version will have a lot more going on but here it is, raw and unfinished so you can get an idea of our process.

I think it’s come out pretty well so far, but I’m also looking forward to putting this song down for a while, and coming back to it with fresh ears.

It's driven us both a little bit mad and it's time to give it a little rest.

Hope you enjoy what we've got so far, and I'll look forward to giving you the perfected version when the time comes.

Thank you as always for supporting me here, you make these musical experiments possible!

Where the shadows run from themselves...

During May I will be back with...

A Crimson Veil livestream on Sunday 10th May - featuring Garry on baritone horn, double bass and classical guitar. It will be a matinee performance, so it'll be an early show around 4pm.

An episode of Behind The Veil - "Making White Room"

"Song for Lovers Unrequited" - a brand new Mishkin Fitzgerald song, the opening track from my upcoming album.

Coven Hangout - a songwriting special. We share our favourite songs, break them down together and I am available to answer any of your music-related questions.

See you then!

Love

Mishkin
