Here's a touchup of a painting I did in October 2002, which was actually 23 years ago now. It's a Centaur from my D(a)emongate setting that I was working on at the time. The painting is perhaps based on an even older pencil scribble, because I remember starting on the setting around 1997 or so. Everything had to be cool, so of course the eyes are glowing and my designs have many pointy bits.
2002 was around when I discovered that I could just sloppily paint over pencil thumbnails rather than bothering with inked line art trying to "comic book colour inside the lines" (I think Spawn and Liquid! was still popular at the time). This new process allowed me to work faster, but I shouldn't have been quite so eager to get started because often I'd neglect polishing the foundational structures. Or I just didn't have the ability. Overall though, my old painting style works... but it probably needs 2-3x as much time.
Also included here are the Mutoid robots, now coloured in yellow. The body armour there is quite similar to some other ones I've been doing recently.
And since my site seems to be acting up I've attached the recent Tesserae Terra page as a ZIP. I started writing a short story for that setting but it's a bit rowdy and unfinished. I find that often it's more interesting to write than trying to "world build" with some sort of game design. You can just conjure up details when needed, rather than having to lay out every eventuality, worry about stat balance and whatnot.
