It's a good strip, and it's funny! It's a reasonable follow-up to Joyce and Dorothy's awkward coming out to Becky in the previous storyline. An excellent question from Becky!
But it wasn't want I wanted! And it undercut where I wanted to go. Becky isn't actually supposed to be angry! Her guilt points inwards, and she's sad, not angry. A funny punchline here trainwrecks everything later. I needed that moment where Dorothy dramatically pulls off her coat, revealing she's wearing Joyce's "This Bright Millennium" hoodie! Why else have I been consistently shrouding Dorothy in her winter coat this whole chapter, if not for that? So into the bin that punchline went.
I thiiiiink the above was the second pass? The last two lines were buried in the unused photoshop file layers. It feels like me trying to find a non-angry punchline version, rather than an earlier false start. But it wasn't working for me. Not the correct tone.
Here. This is the one. Dorothy deep in her manic overcompensating spiral. Becky numb. Not a peep from her. But like all the peeps, full volume, from Dorothy. This is the correct ending for this strip. This is the one that published.
