This strip was an insert! I wanted more Jennifer and Raidah interactions in the buffer. They've got a fucked up thing going on between them and it's great!
however, this first pass at the strip had collateral damage in how much other things in the strip are fucked up
"go blow him" "eugh brother" "but in an actual real way he's not" is a fine exchange. I like it. But it, uh, colored interactions in the rest of the buffer between Jennifer and Walky in a way that I strongly disliked. I don't want that sort of missive to be hanging unspoken over their heads. And the "Fine, don't blow him" afterwards didn't unring that bell enough. (though i'm sure it'd get some readers' engines revving, you know who you are and also I know who you are)
Anyway, I tried it again without the bit about blowing him in the middle. I'm not sure what the original text was supposed to be above Jennifer in panel 3 that resulted in "I think he could use one." Something about a friend? A sympathetic ear? Nah, this pass was limp without the original middle, and it makes Jennifer sound too outwardly nice to Walky. She's gonna put up a front about it.
So my solution was to extend Raidah's conversation with Jennifer! She doesn't leave mid-strip. I get more of Jennifer hedging about how she's being friendly to Walky but only because he's a dumb idiot baby, and then I set up the next strip where Raidah says "You will NEVER top me." I lose the "I'm sure she'll be nicer to me once I prove I'm useful!" bit, which I liked, but Raidah is given a platform for a better line. And, overall, just serving up on a plate exactly how everyone's brains here are broken. All three brains.
