alright, as announced i was going to work more on zap and andy this week (with an exception for thursday where i'll do a request). I ended up taking a TON of time finishing up the cafeteria. It was originally planned that here andy would have to fry one of the damned to offer it to dab, but i felt maybe that was a bit too gruesome and at the same time one of the previous suggestions about a hiding spot for andy (thanks jardey1) mentioned a cardboard cut in, so that made me think of this promotional cardboard stand in advertising nuggets made with imitation human meat that andy can instead cook for dab. It was pretty fun designing the devil mascot character to make it feel authentic!
also as you can see i had to animate the fryer being on and also the basket going down and up when andy is using it.
of course i had to also include standard demons eating the nuggets in the background, wich isn't very exciting but it had to be done!
next i had to work on the penultimate background for the d.o.r.k. center, the hallway connecting all the other rooms to the reception. The place was originally planned to be just a long hallway for doors for all the other rooms, but i took a bit of inspiration from the later parts of monkey island 2 and decided to go for 4 modular rooms with something different in each of them. In each of them you'll find a painting narrating what originally happened to cause the schism between heaven and hell.
and for that i had to make 4 paintings, I only managed to make 2 but i'm confident the next time i'll be able to complete them all.
i based these paintings on an italianfascist futurist painter, fortunato depero, because to be hones the d.o.r.k. center with all its authoritarianism was kind of a perfect fit thematically.
in the paintings you'll learn that the setting isn't exactly based on christian or catholic myths, but it's more of a gnosticism affair. God (really the demiurge) is a massive perv that gets off from torturing people and make existence insufferable-
at some point some of the angels got tired about all the attention and the harassment the humans were getting and said they were going to leave heaven to focus on something more productive , instead of being the assistants of the demiurge big bdsm dungeon named reality...
and, well that's were i stopped for today. I had a bit of a hard time imitating the style, but i'm getting the hang of it, unfortunately that meant i couldn't finish all four paintings and the last background, but by saturday they should be done-
