DESCRIPTION
I used reference. This is a drawing I practiced in February. I had a previous mermaid drawing that didn't turn out well, so I reflected on it and practiced.
Mermaids have always been a theme I wanted to draw (shippers all love mermaid AU), so I'm glad I finally finished one.
They designed them to be slightly contrasting even though they're both mermaids. Lovataar is a lionfish, spiky and aggressive, while Ion is an oarfish, with a slightly elegant feel. Oarfish are said to be harbingers of earthquakes and tsunamis in Japanese folklore (no evidence), and I thought they fit the bill rather well.
