GOT A FEW THINGS TO TALK ABOUT
TWITCH STREAM VOD CHANNEL!
First off the VOD channel! I've been recording and collecting my Twitch VODs for six years now! Finally I have a bulk of them uploaded to a youtube channel, and I've put together an unlisted playlist of select unlisted VODs, most of which are from 2025, but a few of them are from earlier years too. Most VODs should have the date they were streamed in the description. Everything's a little bare-bones-looking right now, I was making a bunch of simple thumbnails to go along with the videos but I wasn't able to upload all of them (for reasons I'll explain later on).
Now, uploading a bunch of unedited VODs to Youtube doesn't sound like that big of a deal, which is why I want to present some challenges I faced so u might understand what i went through ;u;
Some of the files I had to manage were absolutely GARGANTUAN. This is because of my lack of experience with recording my own streams back when I first started doing it. I had to re-render/Handbrake some videos to a reasonable bitrate so that uploading them wouldn't take forever.
Last year a number of my old vods got permanently deleted for reasons I can't even explain? After navigating my hard drive the entire contents of one of the folders disappeared, and trying to recover them only returned corrupted files. This is why there is no proper ending to the Subnautica streams, for example.
Around the start of 2025 I started downloading VODs directly from Twitch. I had a lot of unfortunate internet/power outages and that meant there were multiple files for some streams. I had to edit the videos and stitch them together into one file at times, and I learned the hard way that VODs downloaded from twitch actually have VARIABLE framerate, so I had re-export all of them with constant framerates before I did any sort of editing on them. (don't worry I've been recording them locally since end of last year)
The biggest bottleneck was my upload speed. Obviously I didn't want to destroy my bandwidth while I was using it during the day, so at my prior locations I could maybe only set 1 or 2 VODs to upload overnight, and even then sometimes they would fail. At place I moved to a few months ago now I have fast enough speed to upload 10+ VODs while I sleep. Issue is that Youtube has a limit on how many videos you can upload a day (10), and since this is a relatively new channel I need two months of activity to be verified as "not suspicious". This is also the reason I haven't been able to upload thumbnails to the videos because it's also limited by this verification process.
So I'm glad that for preservation purposes these VODs are finally uploaded before they get inexplicably deleted (or my hard drives fill up). If you do decide to check out some of the VODs then I hope you enjoy them, I've definitely gotten a lot better than I used to be over the course of the 6 years I've done this stuff.Also goes without saying but I will be uploading more vods over time to catch up :3
NOW THE UPDATE PART
Last time I made an update post I mentioned that I would be taking steps to improve my setup/workspaces and speed up my workflow. So I want to update y'all on what I've done since then!
Most notably I FINALLY HAVE A NEW DRAWING TABLET!!!! I put a portion of the Patreon money towards getting an XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2. (rolls off the tongue I know) I haven't gotten to use it much but I'm already really liking the feeling of it! I dunno if it's exaggeration to say it kinda boosted my interest in doing art more? But I feel like I'm gonna have an easier time with getting art stuff done if I commit to getting used to it!
As for room treatment, other than the couple carpets I got I'm thinking to invest in some acoustic foam since hanging up blankets turned out to be a horrible idea :) I'm hoping it will help some, but also it turns out that listening to myself WITH all the final effects on my voice while recording helps me get a better result faster so hey that's progress c:
As for all the stream assets and setup stuff I said I'd work on, I managed to get quite a lot done in the time between that update and my recent trip, most notably my vtuber avatar! In fact I've been working on a video going through my setup and what goes into it on the side as a "Behind The Scenes" Patreon-exclusive feature! It'll hopefully be available sometime soon for Goober tier and above so you can see what I've been up to the past two months lol.
And that brings me to my immediate future plans, as I actually have a bit of a roadmap for the next few videos!
ROAD MAP (OR ROADMAP?)
WALF JAM: This tune isn't actually going to be the one I showed a WIP of a while ago, though I'm reserving that one for later I decided to compose something a bit more light-hearted to reflect my character better. I've been working on it for the past month and you should hear a WIP of it soon methinks.
The Genre That Changed Video Game Music Forever: An infodump video where I talk about Japanese Jazz Fusion and its influence on game music. Unlike the other infodump videos I've done this is a subject I'm actually significantly more passionate about so I think it'll turn out great.
Undecided VGM Cover: This would be the perfect followup to the previous video in the roadmap. Not sure on the exact cover but it'll probably be Rude Buster even though it's been covered a bajillion times lol. Was also heavily considering a chill cover of Green Hill Zone too.
In between all this I'm also going to be working on the stream setup showcase video as well, so that'll be available when it's ready :3
I think the biggest realization I came to is that, just how I was nervous about the reception to my first infodump video before I released it, I'm kind of nervous about the reception to the first few proper songs/covers I'll be releasing lol. I have many years of music experience, but production has always been a hurdle for me for whatever reason. There's a lot to learn when it comes to putting an entire track together by yourself, and over many years I've tried, failed and given up in a constant cycle of trial and error. That's why I'm pushing myself to make this happen cause I know if I just don't give up then I've absolutely got this.
Good news is I don't foresee having this sort of phase of figuring things out for a long time. I'm gonna be sticking to animated skits, infodumps and music videos as my three main types of content. So I just want to say thank you so much for your patience through all of this. <3
