With the spread of the vicious Bile, it has become common across the trunk of Sapryc to burn the dead in an act which is equal parts grief ritual and posthumous quarantine. And, as those who witnessed the incandescent arrival of the Queen-Commander to Krater, it is not uncommon on the monochrome moon for the blaze to arrive alongside the deaths.
But it was not always such. Once, in the time of Sapryc’s vassalage to the Leo Suzerainty, bodies were interred in tombs built in accordance to the dead’s station in life. Humble plots for humble farmers. Great mausoleums for the great lords. And for the highest, the grandest of kings, there were the barrows. Not simple mounds of earth, but hilled catacombs.
These early kings went through great work to ensure that their mortal frames were not swallowed and digested by the lunar body. One wonders what they might have known about the transformative powers of consumption…
