Five travelers have marched across—marched through—the ill and distended moon of Sapryc. Each steps with a unique gait—how could they not, given their differences in form and physique. And yet, they walk astride and apace and, despite it all, aligned.
The journey has been long and fraught for our five travelers, yet any other group fleeing the burning city of Krater would have scattered and slowed to a fatal crawl before they’d even met the delusory softness of the Velutines.
Five travelers. Is that right? The Unnamed Band, after all, has only four members. Flemming, Sacea, Gaje, Jud. Is everyone on this expedition truly “traveling”? However large the manor, does one travel from bedchamber to kitchen and back? Or is such a loop too routine for the word?
How did the poem go again?
Gather up the pieces / They fit together so / Four across the moons / Or is that really so? / Hidden in plain sight / How would you ever know / Gather up the pieces / And toss it ‘cross the pond / A skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip, a skip and then you’re gone.
