It's the Creature of Castorfield June update! This month we focused on putting together our first lewd scene into the game, which is a little more involved than you might expect so lets dive into it!
The first and probably least interesting part, is that because our background perspectives are from a more top angled view, that's only going to be used when a character is an interactable. See Below, Rose Marino is awkwardly standing around the Sheriff's Cabin.
Once you've 'rescued her' she will be found in the cabin, and once you click on her you will activate dialogue or lewd scenes as the game progresses. To circle back to the point of backgrounds, this isometric view isn't great for immersive scenes, so we have to draw more specific backgrounds for whenever we're getting into the moment.
The other challenge is that the Sheriff's body changes steadily over the 40 days of the game, from a manly man, into a hyper femme bimbo. Depending on how you play through the game, and gain access to these scenes, the Sheriff will be in a different state, and the scene needs to accommodate that. Which means multiple variations of each scene with different dialogues, different images.
I don't want to spoil anything by showing off things without context here, but it should help give you an idea of what kinds of variations you can expect from the game. For this one specific plot point with Rose Marino, it will have two parts and then she's kind of accessible for the rest of the game so if you encounter her earlier you would be able to see more of her arc in depth. The plan is to have most scenes work in that way, where they are emphasising the journey of the Sheriff from masc to femme.
Because it takes quite a bit to get these types of scenes together, with alternates and options, it means some updates in the future will simply be a single scene being put together. As this one added a whole bunch of new art assets (once again no spoilers, you got to see Rose Marino hanging out at least), but it means that we have to focus on that kind of content rather than other world dressing like last update's books, notes and novels.
Next month we have a bunch of little tinkering already line up to do, so will more likely be a mechanical update, while we put together some plans for what the beginning half of Rose Marino's arc is supposed to look like.
So stick around! We're excited to have you, and excited to keep you updated with this really cool project, that I'm hoping we can show more of soon!
