Chapter 1: The Static Absolute
DC Universe - Central City
To a normal human, a second is a heartbeat. To a speedster, it is an eternity. But to Naruto Uzumaki, a second was an entire lifetime lived, discarded, and rewritten in the space between blinks.
When the sealing ritual at the climax of the Fourth Shinobi World War fractured under the weight of Kaguya Ôtsutsuki’s final, desperate strike, it hadn't just shattered the battlefield, it had unraveled Naruto’s entire existence. The chakra networks that once defined his soul were burned away, replaced and overwritten by a violent, primordial entity of pure kinetic consciousness. The multiverse called it the Speed Force. Naruto just called it the lightning in his veins.
Now, he stood on the precipice of the highest radio tower in Central City, watching the world rot in slow motion.
A raindrop hung suspended three inches from his nose, a perfect, crystalline sphere reflecting the neon glare of the city below. Down on the streets, a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting was frozen mid-flight, drifting through the air at a snail's pace, trailing a microscopic spiral of displaced oxygen.
Naruto took a breath. In the time it took for that single drop of water to fall another millimeter, he had already thought through his entire week, analyzed every active crime in a ten-mile radius, and felt the agonizing, beautiful stillness of a universe that simply couldn’t keep up with him.
No chakra. No clones. No Kurama.
He didn't need them anymore. He was a pure conduit now. He didn't just run fast; he was the reason things moved at all.
With a thought, Naruto stepped off the tower.
He didn't fall. Gravity was far too slow to claim him unless he permitted it. Instead, he accelerated. A brilliant, blinding aura of crackling orange lightning erupted around his form, shattering the frozen stillness of the night. He blurred into a streak of pure kinetic energy, descending upon the city like a localized solar flare.
Down on 4th and Main, the scene was a snapshot of urban chaos. A crew of heavily armed mercenaries—sporting high-tech, black-market LexCorp rifles, had just blown the vault door off the Central City Federal Reserve. The shattered glass of the bank's front facade was still suspended in mid-air, a halo of lethal shards frozen around the fleeing thugs.
The lead mercenary was grinning, his finger locked on the trigger of his plasma rifle, preparing to fire at a fleeing security guard.
Then, the world turned orange.
Naruto didn't hesitate. He wasn't Barry Allen; he didn't believe in theatrical monologues or giving mass murderers a second chance to reform. He was a shinobi born in blood and war, raised on efficiency. If a threat presented itself, you neutralized it with absolute certainty.
Moving at thousands of miles per second, Naruto systematically walked through the frozen crime scene.
First, he grabbed the plasma rifle from the leader’s grip, vibrating his hands at a precise molecular frequency to shatter the weapon’s firing pin internally before placing it gently back in the man's hands. He moved to the second mercenary, delivering a localized kinetic strike, a punch packed with the force of a moving freight train, but compressed so tightly that the kinetic transfer wouldn't kill the man, only shatter his collarbone and knock him unconscious the exact millisecond time resumed.
Six mercenaries. Six adjustments.
Finally, Naruto stopped directly in front of the falling glass shards. He picked the security guard up by the collar of his uniform, repositioned him ten feet to the left, out of the line of fire, and stepped back onto the sidewalk.
Naruto crossed his arms, exhaling a single, sharp breath. He let his internal perception of time snap back to the mortal plane.
Pop.
The universe slammed back into motion with a deafening sonic boom.
The glass shattered completely, raining harmlessly onto the empty concrete. The lead mercenary pulled his trigger, only for his rifle to implode in a harmless hiss of grey smoke. Before he could even register the failure, all six men collapsed simultaneously, gasping for air as their bones fractured and consciousness fled them from strikes they never saw coming.
The security guard blinked, stumbling backward, utterly uninjured, looking wildly around the empty street.
The only evidence of the intervention was a faint, lingering scent of ozone and a residual trail of orange static electricity dancing across the pavement.
From the roof of a three-story brick building across the street, Naruto watched them fall. His sharp, cerulean eyes narrowed slightly. He wore a streamlined, form-fitting dark coat over high-tensile armored pants, pragmatic gear designed to withstand the sheer friction of his existence. His blonde hair caught the ambient neon light of the city.
"Six seconds of their time," Naruto muttered, his voice a low, smooth baritone. "Six days of mine. Dynamic entry's gotten a hell of a lot quieter."
Suddenly, the air behind him shifted.
It wasn't the familiar crackle of the Speed Force. It was a displacement of atmospheric pressure so massive, so heavy, that it caused the concrete beneath his boots to groan. A shadow fell over the rooftop, illuminated by the silver glow of the moon.
Naruto didn't turn around immediately. Instead, he let his perception decelerate again, dropping the world into that familiar, molasses-slow crawl. He turned his head at a casual, leisurely pace, fully expecting to see the crimson cowl of Central City’s resident speedster.
He was wrong.
Standing there, hovering a mere six inches above the gravel roof, was a woman.
And she was, without exception, the most breathtaking creature Naruto had ever laid eyes on.
She wore a vibrant blue suit that hugged every curve of her flawless, athletic physique, accented by a stylized crimson 'S' emblazoned across her chest. A rich red cape drifted lazily in the wind behind her. Her golden hair blew softly across a face that looked as though it had been sculpted by the gods themselves, sharp, aristocratic cheekbones, full, parted lips, and eyes of a brilliant, piercing blue that seemed to look right through the darkness.
Supergirl. Kara Danvers.
What caught Naruto entirely off guard wasn't her beauty, however. It was her eyes.
Even in this hyper-decelerated state, where the rest of the world was entirely frozen, her eyes were moving. She was tracking him. She was processing the world at the exact same hyper-speed he was.
"Well," Kara said, her voice cutting through the silence of the frozen world like a silver bell. She landed softly on the gravel, her hips shifting with an innate, effortless grace as she looked him up and down. "You're definitely not Flash. He uses red lightning. And he usually talks a lot more during a robbery."
Naruto let a slow, confident smirk spread across his lips. For the first time since arriving in this strange, metallic world, his blood rushed with genuine excitement. Someone could see him. Someone could keep up.
"An orange streak is flashier anyway," Naruto replied, his voice matching her hyper-speed frequency perfectly. He took a deliberate step toward her, his eyes locking onto hers with a stark, unblinking intensity. "And I don't like giving speeches to garbage. It wastes time I don't have."
Kara’s eyebrows arched in genuine surprise. She was accustomed to humans being fragile, slow, and easily overwhelmed by her sheer presence. Yet this man stood before her completely unfazed, radiating a raw, magnetic confidence that sent a subtle, unexpected thrill down her spine. Up close, she could see the sharp contours of his jawline, the faint, whisker-like marks on his cheeks, and the intense, burning vitality in his gaze.
"Pragmatic," Kara murmured, taking a step closer to him, narrowing the distance between them to a mere arm's length. The scent of her, something pure, like ozone and fresh rain, hit Naruto's senses instantly. "I can appreciate that. But you just took down an entire cell of Intergang operatives in less than a millisecond. Who are you?"
"Naruto," he said, the name rolling off his tongue with a dangerous smoothness. He didn't offer a last name. He didn't need to. "And you must be the girl who flies faster than a speeding bullet."
"I can do a lot more than just outrun a bullet, Naruto," Kara teased, a playful, competitive glint flashing in her eyes. She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a sultry, low tone that vibrated straight through his kinetic aura. "But the real question is... can you keep up with me?"
Naruto’s smirk widened into a sharp, predatory grin. The Speed Force inside him roared, demanding to be let loose.
"Why don't we find out?" Naruto challenged.
Before the word 'out' could fully leave his lips, Naruto vanished in a colossal burst of orange lightning. The kinetic backdraft kicked up a cyclone of gravel on the roof.
Kara laughed, a rich, joyous sound, and detonated into the sky, a sonic boom echoing in his wake as she tore through the clouds after the orange blur.
The chase was on, and for both of them, the world would never move slow enough again.
