Kobold and Lamia chibi reveals + Devlog #131 + Illustration poll #6 is on!
It's time for Kobold and Lamia chibis!Lamia has both a boxed and unboxed version! ^^It's actually been a bit since I made these now, and like most characters, both of them had their own challenges. These are pretty obvious for Lamia since all of her sprites needed to be redrawn for the boxless version! Which included making some brand new ones. And of course, both Lamia and Kobold's chibis needed to account for butt expansion as well...! Kobold was more complex in that sense because of her apron and her dress' frills. Not just that, but both of them also had poses where the BE has a direct effect on the rest of the body, like the KO sprites, which unavoidably results in more work. But it's worth it! ^^I hope you'll like them! ^^

Once again, this was a full art month for me ^^I was in the middle of working on Slimegirl's chibi sprites last time. I did finish these and I'm extremely happy with the result, but hot damn, these were tough. Drawing the highest res R6 bodies and scaling these down for the other ranks was without a doubt the best solution, but even then lines had to be sharpened for each one, adjustments had to be done, the black outline needed to be remade each time... It was very, very mind numbing.The worst of it probably was her Fall sprite...! I like adding a black outline on the chibi sprites because it gives everything a dynamic look, ties the various characters together style wise and gives me control over the silhouette on top! When I add it, I select the sprite as a whole, increase the selection size by 3 pixels, then fill that in. No matter the software used for this though, some manual edits always have to be made especially for acute angles (spikes). With that in mind, here is what Slimegirl's Fall sprite looks like:
So yeah, having to sharpen the outline on every rank was certainly something...!But well, I ended up getting through it! After drawing the bodies, I took a couple days break from her to focus on other smaller tasks before going back and finishing it. All that was really left was the booba and faces, nothing nearly as tough as the rest ^^But well, her chibi sprites are now officially fully finished!
From now on, I'm planning on only drawing one chibi set per month so I can go back to designing and commissioning more characters. I'm starting to have a good stockpile of them, but the more, the better!I haven't talked a whole lot about my move recently. It still hasn't happened, but it will finally be a thing in Spring! My plan is to keep working on art as much as possible before then and going back to coding after I'm finally settled in the new place.So that'll be a lot of designing until then, which sadly I can't say a whole lot about. If possible I'd like to get one of the illustrations taken care of soon-ish as well, we'll see.
What I can say is that one of the designs I finished this month is easily among the most complex ones I've done so far. I'd been thinking about it for months now, I knew almost exactly what I wanted to do and the result turned out even better than I expected, very eager to show it off when the full portrait in finished :BI also worked on a much easier one recently which ironically enough kept tripping me up at first because I couldn't figure out a satisfying pose. Once I finally didthough, everything unlocked and I knocked almost all of it out in one go, with only just a few final touches added yesterday! That's the good stuff ^^
