Yugi’s Yokai
Yugi always wanted friends. His grandpa owned and ran a game shop so the boy was big on games and fantasy stories. His father gave him a book on Feudal Fairy Tales. When he solves the millennium puzzle he gains power over the shadows and is able to make games real. This is especially true of the Yokai Monsters and their spells and traps.
Chapter 1 Solved Puzzle
Yugi Muto always was good at puzzles. Puzzles, brain teasers, games and things of that nature. His Grandfather Solomon Muto ran the local card and game shop. So he practically grew up round the stuff.
Sadly this didn’t exactly help him make friends. Lot of kids used him to get access to toys and stuff. When he got older he didn’t exactly grow a lot in height. He as a short king, which happened a lot to the males in their family.
This made him a target in high school, his fellow teens thought he was some brat who skipped a bunch of grades. No, he was the same age he was just short. Not that this made things any easier. He was bullied and pushed around, all Yugi wanted was friends.
To cheer his grandson up, he gave the boy the Millennium Puzzle, it was n pieces. Solomon had tried to solve it himself, but had failed.
Yugi got to work on trying to solve it, right around the time of the game Duel Monsters was launched. Warriors, Spellcasters, Dragons and more, but Yugi found interest in the Yokai monsters. They had such unique lore to them, plus some of them were quite lovely.
The boy did assemble the puzzle and awakened the mystical powers inside. He wasn’t the only one, and the shadow games would begin again. Drawn by a surge of power, creatures appeared in Yugi’s room, seeking to take the power from the innocent soul.
Monsters from the shadow realm gathered with dark purpose. They inched closer ready to sink their fangs and claws into the boy.
A voice spoke in Yugi’s mind. “Call to the dark, choose that which will stand to protect the light.”
“Inuyasha…” The puzzle glowed, and one of Yugi’s treasured cards glowed.
Dog growls could be heard and some of the monsters back off. A long haired boy, tall, with handsome features, piercing golden eyes. His knuckles cracked as he flexed his claws. “You small fry should have stuck to the shadows!”
The monsters attacked but the dog demon attacked faster, slashing with his claws. “Iron Reaver Soul Stealer!” His claws ripped the monsters apart and banished their spirits.
Yugi was stunned. “So you are the one huh?” Golden eyes roamed over Yugi’s form.
Their eyes met and there was a zing. “Alright this time, I’ll be satisfied with just this.” He approached the boy and captured his lips in a kiss.
“Mmm?!” Yugi’s eyes widened and a blush spread between ear to ear. There were sparks, a heat that washed through him, something that was there that Yugi never knew before stirred.
Inuyasha broke the kiss, and he licked his lips. “Next time, I’ll want more than a kiss.” He vanished into a vortex of light.
Yugi thought he’d been dreaming. “What was that, was I dream?” His whole face burned in a blush. He went to his deck box and found Inuyasha’s card. ‘He looked even more handsome in person.’
In the card art he looked wicked, swiping his claws and unleashing golden slashes. He was of the Yokai Type. Yugi may or may not have a card crush. Also some yaoi awakening.
What happened was just the beginning.

The next day Yugi wore his puzzle to school. It felt like a good luck charm. He also decided to bring all the Yugioh Cards he had in the box the puzzle pieces came in. There were a bunch of different cards he had, but the deck he was building was a Yokai deck.
Yokai was one of the types of cards, and one of the first Archetypes.
Grandpa noticed he’d completed the puzzle. “You did it Yugi, what did you wish for?”
“Well…” The boy blushed and scratched his chin. “I really wanted a friend.”
Solomon chuckled. “I’m sure you’ll make one.” He raised his pinky. “Maybe you’ll even find that special friend.”
“Grandpa!” He blushed harder. The man just laughed.
Yugi went to school. His backpack was full of different puzzles and games, he thought that they’d help make friends.
At school, he was simply sitting alone. People did take notice of his new bling, he wore the Millennium Puzzle like a necklace.
Some students asked him to come play basketball, but Yugi declined. “Hey Yugi why don’t you come play basketball with us?”
Before Yugi could respond, another student grabbed him. “Why are you asking that shorty, any team he’s on is gonna lose.”
“Shut up!” The first boy hissed.
Yugi sighed. He had tried once as a freshman, but people just made fun of him. The boy was fast, but as a short king he always got dunked on. It was clear they asked him to play as a joke. When it came to the game itself Yugi analyzed it and actually was able to think up different plays.
Plays that actually got the team a win in a few games, but Yugi never got the credit. Because the team teased him Yugi didn’t help them again. He wanted friends not to be used.
Muto was really smart. He could read some Egyptian and was very versatile in lore and legends. It took Yugi 8 years to complete the puzzle, it was that complex. Now that he had, he hoped the wish thing was real.
The box was kept, since it held the pieces like treasure, he called it a treasure box. So he kept the Duel Monster’s cards in it because that was his favorite game. ‘I got my puzzle and my treasure!’ He was pleased with himself when.
Tristan Taylor came up and snatched the box. “Hey!”
“What’s this? Another one of your stupid little games?”
“Stop it Tristan, that’s my Treasure Box!”
Tristan was tall, so he was able to keep it away from Yugi. “Pass!” He passed it to his friend who was also quite tall, a blonde known as Joey Wheeler.
“Treasure?” He caught the box.
“Be careful, give it back!”
“Careful?” Joey shook his head. “Only a girl would care so much about a box.” He tossed the box around. “It makes me sick watching you act like this.”
“What?” Yugi was so confused.
“I’m gonna teach you how to be a man!” The blonde said proudly, like he knew anything about being a man or what makes a man. He pounded his chest. “You want it back, hit me with everything you got!” A very caveman-esk view of manhood.
“I don’t like fighting!” He didn’t mind competitive games or even fighting games, but actually getting violent with someone felt wrong. The difference between a street fight and a sport.
Yugi could easily punch Joey in the kiwis and take back his stuff, but what would that serve?
Joey sighed in disappointment. “You have no guts at all.” His father was partly to blame for this behavior.
“Anyway can you give it back?”
“No way!” Tristan said with a smirk.
“What’s in here anyway?” Joey took a peek inside. “There’s just some stupid cards in here.”
“They aren’t stupid, they are my treasure.”
Joey rolled his eyes. “How lame!”
“Yugi treasure is valuable, money, jewels, even silver and gold!” Tristan said. “What about that necklace of yours is that real gold?”
Yugi covered the puzzle. “How dumb!” Joey hissed and tossed the box of cards to Tristan.
Catch!
“If you think it’s dumb give it back to Yugi.” Tea Gardner has stepped in. She’d known Yugi since Elementary School. They weren’t friends exactly. “Bullies who pick on other people are what’s dumb!”
The guys paled. “Crap it’s Tea!”
“Why do you two gotta act like this? You need to grow up!”
They backed off. “Damn meddling girl!” Tristan spat.
“We’ll get you back, don’t forget.” Joey said and ran off.
“Wow Tea, one word from you and they ran off.”
Tea sighed. “They are mostly harmless, their egos get too big if you don’t check them.” She pointed at Yugi. “You need to be tougher.”
“Well I try…” She gave him back the Treasure Box.
“Guys like that are a dime a dozen here at school.” She sighed. “Little boys without much sense, more balls then brains.”
Tea had been invited to play basketball with the guys, it all seemed friendly and on the level, but the guys were passing to the girls so they could shoot, then the guys would peak up the girl’s skirts. “Such pigs!” When she caught on, she called them out and left.
Yugi thought guys liking girls was the norm, but try as he might he just didn’t feel that way towards women. He thought about Inuyasha and the kiss, his cheeks burned. “Ugh never play basketball in a skirt.” She said.
Muto’s mind shifted. He though about Inuyasha playing basket ball, imagining the dog demon in the sporty attire, the top and the shorts. Moving like a beast on the court, dominating. Then a passing thought flew through and it was Inuyasha wearing a skirt, while he jumped through the air, showing off his ass and his bits.
His face burned. Tea nudged him. “Hey what are you thinking about?”
“N-Nothing!” He shook his head. Yugi showed Tea the cards, talking about the different lore of each one.

Joey and Tristan were stomping down the hall. “Damn her, she makes me so mad…” Joey steamed. “Who’s a bully!?”
Tristan looked at his friend. “That would be us yep!”
Wheeler grabbed the brunette. “I ain’t no bully!”
“Huh?” Tristan was confused. They ended up bumping into a mountain of a student. ‘Ohh crap it’s Ushio!!!’ He visibly paled.
“What was that about bullies?” He asked, looking menacing.
Joey didn’t back down. “Nothing, stay out of dis!” Ushio raised a brow.
‘You idiot!’ Tristan grabbed Joey. “It’s nothing it’s nothing!”
Ushio looked at them. He looked at them like they were trash. “Picking on people is bad.” The giant walked off.
He was called the Ogre Hall Monitor. Ushio was on the School Disciplinary Committee, he was like an enforcer, even the teachers didn’t go against Ushio. Many of the school’s harshest rules were set by him.
“Whoo, he’s gone, we are safe.” Tristan breathed a sigh of relief. Joey elbowed him off.
“You jerk I couldn’t breathe!”
“If you messed with Ushio you wouldn’t be breathing, ever again!”
Joey huffed. “I can take him.”
“Sometimes Joey I can’t tell if you are brave or stupid.”
The blonde glared at him. “What was that?”
“Ugh, this school is so damn boring!” Tristan was a jerk out of boredom. He didn’t have a girlfriend, which was mostly his fault because of his bad attitude most girls didn’t like him.
“Maybe we could liven things up around here.” Watch out he was getting an idea.
“Like what?”
“Yugi’s puzzle thing, he spent years working on that bobble, bet he’d freak out like crazy if it went missing.”
“Oh ho, that’d be hilarious. Plus if it’s real gold we could sell it and make some big money.”
“Are you stupid!” Joey snapped.
“What’s with you man, I know you need the money, plus it’s not like you like Yugi or anything?” Joey didn’t see himself as a bully, though Tristan had seen Joey go out of his way to mess with the little guy, it didn’t make sense.
“He just annoys me, that’s all!” It was more than that. ‘The way he talks about treasure...he talks like a girl...he’s a boy though, but he looks so cute...he’s a guy though…’ Joey had feelings, complicated feelings the blonde didn’t take time to understand.
He’d been watching Yugi since they got to Highschool together, usually alone, playing with some toy or game. Joey had seen Yugi working on the puzzle before, so focused. It was cute. When Yugi smiled, it was cute. He liked having Yugi’s attention even if it was anger. ‘He’s so cute when he’s angry.’ The years had passed and Joey’s feelings twisted, he thought Yugi was “too girly” and that was confusing him. In truth Joey was just gay, he had the hots for Yugi and didn’t understand or know how to act on these feelings without being a jerk.
He couldn’t talk to anyone about these feelings, his dad wasn’t an option. Tristan was a bro, but he was all about the ladies. He was confident in his sexuality, maybe a bit too confident but he was also thick.
In a twisted and messed up way Joey truly believed he was helping Yugi, toughening him up and “making him a man”. He was completely wrong.

After school Ushio found Yugi and questioned him about the bullying. Muto being the sweet heart he was, said nothing. “Sometimes victims can’t come forward but I’ve done my own investigating.”
“Really, I’m fine!”
Ushio put a hand on his shoulder. “What you need is a bodyguard, someone who can protect you and your valuables.” Ushio smiled, but the smile held dark intent, a mask to hide his own darkness. “I can protect you and take care of anyone who tries to hurt you, for a small fee of course.”
For a moment Yugi could see it, the monster in his soul. The boy pulled back. “I...I...I’m fine really…”
He left but Ushio thought he had a client, someone he could extort money from.
To be continued...The Stolen Puzzle
During gym Class Tristan and Joey steal Yugi’s puzzle, causing the boy to panic. Tea learns that there were all manner of dark rumors about the puzzle, whispers of shadow games and punishing thieves who stole from the Pharaoh. Joey and Tristan are caught and beaten up by Ushio, but Yugi defends them, saying they didn’t steal it, that they found it when he lost it. A total lie, and Ushio tries to hurt them more, Yugi gets violent to protect the two surprising them even more.
