Good afternoon everyone. Hope you're having a nice weekend.
I've come down with a rotten case of Bronchitis unfortunately. A parting gift from that cold I had last week. My lungs feel full of gunk. It's awful. I have however been able to power forward with the video editing in lieu of streaming.
I can report that "pre-production" went very smoothly.
I was able to watch back all 25 hours of the PEAK footage. Something that's a little unusual, but I felt was necessary due to the skittish of PEAK's gameplay. I wasn't always hitting the notification button when it came to the little things. So they were slipping by unnoticed.
I've listed each stream with a short and easily identifiable name. Just something short and in alphabetical order for the sake of easy navigation within the project.
Within that are timelines cut into little bits and tagged with "markers" in Adobe Premiere. Just little colour coded notes corresponding with something useful to me.
There's even a dedicated tab in Premiere where I can review those markers:
I'm very confident there's a bullshittery here.
It looks longer than 10 minutes. My gut tells me somewhere between 10 and 30.
What I'm doing now is I'm chopping and trimming the clips and then placing them on the "Main Sequence" timeline. The timeline that eventually formally becomes the bullshittery.
I've decided to lean into that idea I mentioned, where perhaps I could sort the jokes by biome. Making a sort of mock playthrough. And it keeps the visual pallet consistent rather than jumping around.
Premiere lets you colour the clips and not just the markers. Therefore I've marked each clip based on the biome it takers place in. I'm aiming to make something a little bit like this:
Granted, I shouldn't get married to this idea though. My goal is to make a funny video, not a pretty timeline. And I've immediately noticed a discrepancy.
The biomes for AIPORT, SHORE AND TROPICS are vastly more represented in the highlights. There are simply way more of them than TUNDRA (blue), which barely comes up at all.
Additionally, I'm noticing another quirk of PEAK's editing DNA.
Because it uses proximity voice chat, any instances where we get geographically separated triggers a very noticeably collapse in the number of funny moments. Which stands in sharp contrast to other games where we just use Teamspeak.
Interestingly, this has caused the first half of MESA and the new biome ROOTS to be extremely sparse on the funny moments. As both of those biomes feature tornados, hurricanes or a high degree of verticality. Which rapidly separates our play group into solos. Drastically reducing the need to make each other laugh or even communicate.
An interesting phenomenon, I think. How environmental effects cause a measurable drop in available highlights.
So right now, primary editing continues. I'll chop together the bullshittery in the broadest strokes. Leaving the fine tuning for later.
I'll try to determine the overall length of it and come back with and estimate for animating. Every 5 work days of keyframing produces 5 minutes of animation on average. So I'll know more soon. Give me a few more days to make the first draft.
Thanks everyone.
TL;DR - Pre-production scrubbing complete. Bullshittery clips being assembled.
