At last, it is finally here. The first Release Candidate version of v0.07 is here! With a new soon-to-be playable character, new mechanics, optimizations and more!
v0.07-RC-1 version is currently available to Patreon members of the $5 tier and above who are in the Vorecade Discord server. Check out this article on how to connect your Discord account with Patreon.
New Character - Hoshizora Aoi - UNI★
A new face in a long time! She's been in the works for a very long time now, but at last, she's nearly finished! Uni is available in the testing version as an NPC for the time being, with the full release scheduled for the full v0.07 release.
Uni has been drawn by the great artist BridgeCross! I hope you'll like her as much as I did!
New Race Mechanics - Drafting
A new mechanic where coasting behind another racer's slipstream makes it easier to run, incurring a nice stamina consumption reduction buff, helping break stalemates up and allow for comebacks when racers appear to be even in ability.
New Testing Racetrack - Long Distance
Long races have been mostly missing from the game up until this point, I added a new racetrack with the totally unique name "TestLong", mostly for the stamina builds.
Optimizations - Memory Leaks
On this week's nerdy corner, we have memory leaks!
Memory leaks in their most basic form is the act of a bug in a program causing an ever growing memory utilization, starving the computer of available memory. Mainly caused by bugs related to code failing to keep track of what's in use or not. While optimizing the game for the release, I noticed a big leak caused by the Unity Engine itself whilst going around the memory snapshots of the game, related to text rendering. At first, I thought it was my spaghetti code causing some issues, but apparently, it wasn't my fault this time. v0.07-RC1 includes a mitigation that should reduce the runtime RAM usage by around 50-100MB depending on playtime and actions taken in-game.
