Video Power Grind Incoming! Feeling Motivated By Excellence (Mini Podcast)
Hello Beautiful Patrons!
Since I have been busy with preparing for Shmup Slam 8 (Now Accomplished!) and putting together what I think is a heater of a Rain World review for the past few weeks, I figured it would be nice to do a little mini podcast ep just giving an update on my thoughts and feelings and plans for the summer, because I am currently feeling a lot of motivation to start blasting out a ton of vids and patreon content ASAP.
In this audio chat / mini podcast I talk about how looking back on the past few months of work, I have been really wanting to establish and explore a lexicon around proper gameplay structure (and why a lot of modern design lacks said structure) which was something I could take for granted with arcade game reviews since arcade games (surprise, surprise) have strong structure to the point where I didn't need to think about it much. Much like a house with a solid foundation that you end up taking for granted. And in that journey of talking about the game structure issues of recent modern releases like Resi 9 and Pragmata, I have ended up making large complex videos in the process which I think was important to establish these ideas not only for the people watching the vids, but also for myself as a critic.
Now that I am in the homestretch of the Rain World review, however, which feels like the culmination of a lot of topics I have been talking about recently -- especially since Rain World has the design concepts I have been talking about in a tangible form, I am excited to scale back down the review production process and use more of a shorthand when discussing structural issues when they come up, since I have done of the work of putting these ideas into a longhand form recently.
I think it's more fun to hear about this in audio form and I do a better job of explaining it than writing it out here, but essentially I am planning to go right into my Star Fox Remake review right after I finish up Rain World and then try to push out a steady stream of more typical length vids ha. I'm sure I will still bust out a whopper of a vid from time to time (Dark Souls 2 probably) but I am gonna scale back down to my usual vid length to cover the swarming ocean of ideas and games I want to cover.
Thanks so much for supporting the supporting the channel everyone! Straight up would not be possible to do what I do without the patrons and I am really excited for you all to experience the post Rain World power grind coming very shortly.
Sincerely,
Mark
