THIS PIECE IS EPISODE 9 SPOILERS FREE!

WOW.This sucker took all week to cook up. I've been in a bit of an art slump lately, unable to get any finished pieces done, so i figured i should just sit down and try to make something simple!

...naturally, that meant drawing a big sprawl with all 8 of my main characters (plus Garfield) all in unique, "homemade" costumes, in a place i've barely ever drawn, which involved drawing and developing and entire semi-detailed background!

what can i say, i love what i do~

with that said, i wanna talk you guys through my thought process for these costumes. in case you're unfamiliar, the dorks are getting ready to go watch the finale episode of the Amazing Digital Circus, and instead of dressing them up as whichever character they most resemble (either personality wise, or looks wise), i wanted to dress them up as whichever character they would want to, and could MANAGE to dress up as! Let's chat:

Magna as Caine was a tough choice that i only landed on fairly late in the process. She's the unspoken "leader of the gang", and since she's already been seen wearing a fair few red items of clothing, it seemed like a relatively easy fit for her to pull off, all be it, at the cost of losing the trademark teethy look Caine has. c'est la vie! It also coincidentally meant i could stick Garfield in a little hamster ball and have him "cosplay" as Bubble, always by Magna's side 💕

at some point, i also considered making Magna Gangle. and Leo too! but neither of them really fit the role. Leo sorta did, but he just looked like Gangle. Too much Gangle, not enough Leo. Gangleo... speaking of Leo-

Leo as Ragatha was ALSO a late decision! i originally planned on dressing Leo and Magna up as Kinger and Queenie, since they're a confirmed couple, and would be a relatively easy fit for Magna to pull off, since she's a bit lazy and likes the low effort costumes! here's a sketch of it!

i probably would have added some sort of crown to go along with it, just to be a little more on theme, but, as i struggled with finding suitable characters for the rest of the gang, Kinger went to Max, while Queenie fell through completely.

i considered giving HIM the role of Caine, since he's the magical, whacky, show-hosty type, and i'd dress Magna up as the Moon, which has had a few fan designs floating around that i'm quite fond of. This meant that someone of the main cast of the Digital Circus was going to be left out without a costume representing them, and i wanted to avoid that as best i could.

thus, we landed on Ragatha! As much as i would have liked to give Ragatha to one of our big bootied babes (either Magna or Mimi, really) i couldn't see either of them willingly wearing those sort of dolly, raggedy clothes. it just felt too out of character! But we know someone who LOVES to wear a nice dress, plus, making Leo Ragatha meant i could really lean into the plush doll look, and give him nice stitches and a fun yarn ball hair poof! how cute~

Randy as Gummigoo was a no brainer. i can't see Randy being too invested in dressing up for a movie premier, so Gummigoo fit that "low effort" character costume just enough, PLUS, Randy and the boys are, canonically, Team Fortress 2 players, so, having Randy supplement his Gummigoo costume with a Sniper vest (and hat) added to the Australian gator vibe i needed!

Stevie as Gangle was ANOTHER tough conclusion to reach. let's be honest with ourselves, Stevie would absolutely dress up as Jax, he loves that maid-dress-wearing-bastard! But as i began this piece by drawing Flo and Mimi, it meant that Jax was out of the option pool, so i thought "how and WHY could Stevie pull a Gangle costume?", well, by making it a liiiittle slutty?. bingo. sadly he couldn't go to the cinema wearing JUST a mask and a loose ribbon tied around him, so i gave him a fishnet shirt along with some leggings to give the look a bit more depth! Security is NOT gonna be happy with him regardless.

Max as Kinger was an easy, early pick! Much like Kinger, Max is a sweet, soft, chill guy who also likes to spend his time in the darkness of his pillow fort tapping away on his computer. Again, the low effort costume just fits him well. Plus, the bucket on his head once again gives TF2 Soldier vibes, so it just added up nicely~Hope y'all appreciate his checkered shoes for the added chess theming!and NO, he is not NAKED under that blanket. he's got some boxer shorts on, i'm sure.

Mimi as Jax was an early decision when i first thought up of this concept. "Mimi loves bunnies. when given the choice to dress up, she'd choose to go in her bunny onesie, since we've already seen her wear it for the Five Nights at Freddy's Movie premier."isn't that adorable? it's the EXACT SAME onesie!

Flo as Pomni, wasn't my first choice! Flo would have made a great Gangle! Although Gangle's a bit more on the shy-girl side of things, Flo still matches her quiet, artsy side. But i needed someone to be Pomni, and i didn't want to main-character-syndrome Leo by making him Pomni, even though he too, is a little jester. That's when it hit me. Flo, absolutely, would own a jester costume from her trips to the renaissance fair, it just so happens to be conveniently similarly coloured~

it was a very fun outfit to design for her, and on top of that, i even gave her a little Ribbit inspired phone case, since she's a big "match my phone case with my outfit for today" kinda girl. i imagine she has quite the phone case collection.and yes, she's absolutely a funnybunny girl. please go easy on her, she's fandom trash (lovingly)

finally, Jenny as Zooble was another easy choice. from the start, when Flo was still going to be Gangle, Jenny fit the bill as Zooble very well. Jenny is the big nerd of the group, who WILL go the extra mile, and craft a ludicrous cosplay, even at the cost of half her wardrobe. i can just imagine her and Flo going down to the local second-hand shops and browsing the clothes section for fitting clothes that she could later tear into and repurpose~hell, she even dyed her hair for this! (i'm sure it'll wash out by the next time we see her though) though she originally went as far as to SHAVE HALF HER HEAD, to better fit the Zooble vibe. She's a determined nerd, that Jenny. bless her.
