In the extensive research I did to make this post topical, I discovered that the historical origin of the Easter Bunny was in fact from Germany, where the "Osterhase" would judge the children of the towns to see if they were naughty or nice, much akin to a furry Santa Claus (mental note, do not ever google "Furry Santa Claus" again).
