This is the second version of this comic - I had to add his lower half on the ground because people were confused why he was "suddenly standing at a table eating a steak dinner". This episode is also censored on Webtoon.
In the back of my mind I kept telling myself not to bring time travel into the series, but when you're making an episode a day and you've got a joke you like...
The introduction of the Demon King. At this point the other Demon Swords did not exist. If I did it all again, his blood wouldn't be bright pink - readers expect things to be more colour coded.
Just a little joke about Boomers and the housing market. That sword spirit saying "Hi!" kinda messes with a lot of what gets established about sword souls later on (they tend to just say "Cut!" or "Stab!" etc)
Promise Point is part of the Barbarian Badlands and exists between Dark Knight's Keep (Sickle's hometown) and Paladium, the Paladin Kingdom. I always meant to update this episode because Night Knight IS a Dark Knight, it's not very clear.
The red and yellow gradient behind Xiphos is the Godrealm's sky and Kargob's skull.
She's called Sir here because it's a holdover from when she was going to be more like Brienne Of Tarth. A lot of people think she's trans or something, but that's not the case.
Entrails the Dark Knight is a very clear parody of Guts from Berserk. He gets beat up a lot.
I remember hating drawing all those swords. I was not in the mood that day.
The Blademaster has stitches in his shirt that read XII because he first appeared in episode 12.
Kris the Necromancer got wrote into a corner with this one and so he disappeared for a long time. He's fine now.
Mere was always secretly a woman, that's why she has a simple feminine tā moko. I didn't want to make anything silly that could be disrespectful, but now that this series makes money I don't use these characters much anyway. When I was discussing an opportunity to make the Swords TV series, I replaced Mere with Jian in the script - I don't think I would be okay with an American company portraying Māori themed characters.
I think this same joke gets used in The Lord Of The Rings, but I wasn't reusing it intentionally. This episode wasn't meant to be any sort of reference.
This episode is making fun of a real person by representing him as an angry soyboy and me as a handsome chad. In an older version he had gross teeth, but I softened him a bit.
This episode isn't super clear for people because friendly-fire being enabled/disabled is back-to-front or something. It comes up a lot. A lot of people struggle with the idea that the green thing is the Orcs stomach either. Could use a redraw!
This might have been clearer if it included Autumn/Spring but I might have been trying to avoid 4 traditional seasons so I had more options later - I can't quite remember!
Originally elves were going to have huge bat ears and he was going to be hanging upside down, but that was way too far. They have 4 eyebrows to blend in their spider-filled forests.
That's Kris the Necromancer hocking his wares in the background. Where is Guy? I guess he and Chad had a falling out.
The original Quest addict.
King Hilton never found Baltad's Blade again up until this point - the Enchanted Forest is just too hard to navigate.
