This is the first scene of a moment between Halsin and Clover before they got together. Clover was terrified of Halsin ever since he uttered a word about the Fey, about Thaniel. Someone so close with them... and someone laced with such charm as he had never encountered... could be a powerful hound of the Winter Court. And he could not seem to leave Clover alone.
With the parasite in his mind, Clover felt trapped by circumstance. He had not slept for more than an a half-hour at a time. What little hold on reality he felt he clung to was slipping from his fingers. He must protect himself. What scared him most of all was that Halsin was melting away at his defenses. He felt desperate.
Then, one bitter night.
Note about Clover and cooking: He makes the camp meals along with Gale-- If you eat the food the Fey offer you, you're bound to them and must stay with them forever, so Clover wanted control of that.
