As we mentioned earlier in this post, our new artist has taken on updating the visuals for Vergil’s runner.
And now is the perfect time to show you what he’s accomplished in such a short time!
The entire environment has been completely redrawn, while the remaining parts are still being refined to make the color tones of the ground and obstacles easily distinguishable. This isn’t quick work - the blades of grass and bushes need to be carefully arranged so players can instantly tell at a glance what will be an obstacle and what is safe to pass.
Also, as we said in the previous post, while creating the concepts, Vergil’s arsenal of items borrowed from the villagers has become more complex: a money pouch, a book, and various stylish hats.
One of these hats will be especially loved by a certain group of our players, but it’ll be a fun surprise for them, hehe.
An unexpected challenge turned out to be drawing the exoskeleton - it was VERY difficult to understand how it would actually work. So after figuring out its mechanics, we had to redraw the concept and create a tone of layers, which made coloring it take a huge amount of time.
The villagers have been almost completely redrawn; only the line art needs to be colored now so everything looks good tonally and blends seamlessly with the background.
