[Free] Tomb of the Vizier: An Unstable Dungeon (Bonus Annotated Version)

Hello everyone!

Today we bring you a special treat, another dungeon that we have teased this month. I started this dungeon for our home campaign and it worked so well I wanted to bring it out for a full release.

Based in part on the real-life Vatican Necropolis, the Tomb of the Vizier is a moody, dark delve that will show your players just how dangerous treasure hunting can be.

Our bonus annotated map will point out major parts of the dungeon as well as interesting features that you can use as a DM to make your own. Let's take a look!

The Environmental Story

As we begin our journey into the tomb it will become readily apparent that our adventurers are not the first group to hazard the depths in search of glory. There is ample evidence of people having been here only recently: dungeon-delving gear, collapsed sections of the walls, and even shallow-buried skeletons. These treasure seekers that arrived before the party were supremely unlucky, as they encountered the biggest pitfall of this dungeon: its unstable construction. Built on a natural fault line, even micro-earthquakes can have devastating effects at play.

I figured that incorporating a d20 mechanic for encountering such hazards might ramp up the danger factor your adventurers are going up against, but it is not necessary for running the tomb raid! Every few minutes, roll a d20. On evens, build up a tally that goes to 8; encountering one minor earthquake that could potentially collapse tunnels or even pose threats to your party.

The true test of brilliance will be when your players encounter the Crystal Keys that control the Vizier's actual sepulcher. There are FOUR keys:

Solving the Riddle of the Vizier that is broken up into four parts along each statue will provide the correct combination.

There are tons of details within this dungeon that can provide scaling challenges based on your party's resilience. Use some. Use them all! Use none!
