Let's talk about character design process! My initial design for this nun was like this:
I was thinking "purity, purity, how do I make the purest character ever." I decided that the purest character that I could think of is a young nun who also isn't a "perfect nun" -- her hair is sticking out of her nun habit chaotically, she's wearing brightly colored skater shoes, and she's wearing pink nail polish.
So then I drew the version you see above, in which she is gently lowering your phone while you play Reverse: 1999 on the subway. In doing that, I introduced several new character design details, and wanted to reflect them in the reference sheet:
The mouth is triangular
The hair lines are now red and the hair has a gloss to it
The eyes are bigger
The aura of purity around her is brighter, with a white inner later
And in doing THAT, I created what I thought was a really fun eye shape.
LOOK AT THAT. That's a cute eye shape right??
I tried to apply it to the drawing...
But I dunno. It looks a little more strained to me somehow, a little less gentle than v1. At some point I just have to post it, so I'm gonna post v1 for now, and try this eye shape again in future sketches of her.
