One of the users did point out quite correctly that posting a synopsis/overview of the Story/Universe of Worlds of Carrion would be helpful for people to be able to measure what they're getting into and they were absolutely correct. Not having one was an oversight and so here I am now fixing said oversight.The universe of "Worlds of Carrion" started from an idea. And that idea was "What if tomorrow, without warning our most advanced methods of comunication and travel simply stopped functioning."To place this into a real world perspective for a moment; what if 'Tomorrow' the internet, the phone, flights and the most "advance forms" of our technology just suddenly and irreparably broke across the globeWe would still have boats, we would still have electrical signals to send 'telegraphs' but its rather obvious that it would be a cataclysmic event across all societies.Economies, social frameworks, friendships, families, connections, all of these things would completely altered to be almost unrecognizable by the time the dust settled.
This is the starting premise of this universe that's been stepped into.In Worlds of Carrion, the Human Federation had a Galactic spanning society, very advanced and more than capable of standing "toe to toe" with other galactic peers and powers.Then overnight that federation was broken, envelopped by something known locally as "The Shroud" a phenomena of unknown origin and nature that has rendered the technology that allowed both near instantaneous travel and Communication to be rendered completely non-functional.Sectors and systems are cut off from one another, incapable of traversing through these affected areas of space. The shroud, effectively tears apart all matter that tries to pass through it regardless of shielding, or material composition.
Thus cut off from sectors and their instantaneous modes of transportation and communication also non-functional, the various societies have had to "downgrade" their vessels into using much slower and more dangerous forms of travel. Similar to how we would suddenly have to rely on ships if our planes stopped working.This story follows the events taking place in a sector of space known as the Hesperides Sector, a subsector of the Federation that had control of a sizable portion of the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. Nearly a full generation has already grown up under the shadow of this "shroud" with no greater knowledge of the Federation or the Galaxy beyond this sub sector and so we arrive at the crossroads, where the old guard that hoped for a solution to this "problem" a belief that one day "soon" they would return to 'normal' is aging out and a new generation is grappling with the reality of "This is normal" with all of the political, sociological and military implications that brings. Carina Korhil is our primary protagonist and by virtue of her grandfather and her planet's control over food exports is thrust very quickly into the center of the growing unrest taking control of the subsector with her needing to navigate through the politics if she wants her planet to survive the conflicts all can see forming on the horizon. I definitely missed the forest for the trees there... and stepped into my own brand of idiot not thinking of that one.But said oversight is fixed now.
