DESCRIPTION

Hello you lovely deviants,I wanted to share my updated Armor reduction calculations and get your opinions. I understand that ultimately how it works in practice will be most important, but still wanted to get feedback at this point. So currently the way Armor Reduction works is very simple, and linear. The attacker needs to do more damage than the armor total to do Damage. For Example (If the enemy does 50 Damage, and you have 10 Armor, the result is 40 Damage. If the Armor was 50 it would be Zero Damage - and cant go lower.

Whilst it is nice and simple, I don't like the idea that you could potentially nullify damage completely.

This leads me to my updated calculation, which will change how it is calculated based on if the Armor of the one being attacked is higher or lower than the Attacker

Now, to start - The one being attacked's armor needs to be higher than the damage of the attacker to reduce the damage. What I mean by this is, if the enemy does 50 damage, and you have 50 armor - You would take 50 damage, there is no reduction.

Using the current exponential values (0.4 and 0.3) If you then had 30 armor it would use the "lowerExponent", and you would take 82 Damage (32 extra damage), but if you had 80 armor you would take 41 Damage (only 9 less) using the "higherExponent"

In short, you are punished for having less armor, and not rewarded as much for having better armor, so in this case you would need to to have 600 armor or 1200% more armor to get 32 points of damage reduced. These exponential numbers can be changed easily, and testing what balance is good, or using these for difficulty can be discussed. But I thought this was a more interesting calculation and really places the importance of ensuring you have good armor.

What do you think of this in theory?
