My plan for the channel is to work on a 50 Ways to Die in Elden Ring video in between producing a smaller video every other month to stop the YouTube algorithm from thinking I’m dead.
I spent all but the last week of February making clips for 50 Ways to Die in Elden Ring. So far, I’ve recorded and edited 21 of the 61 I have planned, which sounds bad when you consider that I spent 52 days working them. But as I said last month, one of the clips I finished this month had almost 20 shots in it, while the vast majority of the rest of clips should only have one, and none of the remaining clips should have more than two. So a more useful gauge of my progress would be to count how many shots I’ve finished instead of clips. So far, I’ve finished 44 shots out the 89 I expect I’ll need, so I’m now about halfway done making clips.
That’s much better than 21 out of 61, but it still only comes out to less than a shot a day, which isn’t great. But I have reason to believe that the next time I get a chance to work on Elden Ring clips, I’ll have a much better rate of progress because I’m getting faster at the process. In the last 8 days of production, I finished 11 clips with 13 shots. That’s more than 1.5 shots a day! And the best part of that is that I think I can maintain that rate going forward because it seems like the remaining 40 clips should each require about the same amount of work as the last 11. What I’m saying is, I think I’m through the hard part now.
Anyway, last Sunday was the last day I had planned to work on 50W2D in Elden Ring, so on Monday, I switched gears to working on the next 50 Ways to Live in Minecraft. First, I brainstormed ideas. When I had something I thought might work, I tried hammering down all the plot details. But while I did that, I realized I didn’t like the concept very much, so I tried fleshing out another idea instead. By Thursday, I realized I didn’t like the second concept either, so I brainstormed ideas again and came up with a third concept I liked much better. I’m almost done hammering down the plot details of this third idea and I should be ready to write the script for it soon.
I wish I had more to show for a project I started working on almost a week ago, but it’s really important to me to think of a concept for a video that I can imagine myself wanting to watch. If I don’t think I’d like watching the video I’m making, it undermines the whole process, so I need to take the time to make sure I’ve got a good concept. Remember last year when I said I was going to make these videos in two weeks? That was so naïve!
Anyway, I’m going to work on the next 50 Ways to Live in Minecraft until it’s done, and then spend at least the next 30 days after that working on the Elden Ring video again. If I can match the rate I had in those last 8 days, that should be enough to finish making the clips.
