July 22, 2016 – 10:00 a.m. BST - Sky Sports HQ, London

.

The lights came on. The camera swept across the Sky Sports studio, wide desk, five legends and one retired player in sharp suits.

Five of them sat, already annoyed, that being Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdiand and Theirry Henry.

Because the other two—Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard—were on their feet dancing around.

Carragher spun with his arms out, shouting toward the ceiling.

“You’ll never walk aloone!”

Gerrard followed behind, clapping overhead like it was Anfield on a European night.

“You’ll never walk aloone!”

“You’ll never walk aloone!”

“Sit down before you two pull a hamstring,” Neville muttered, not even looking at them.

Carragher laughed and finally dropped into his seat. Gerrard followed, grinning as he straightened his tie.

“Apologies to the viewers,” he said, half-chuckling. “But I think you lot can understand our reaction.”

Across the desk, Thierry Henry let the pause continue for half a beat before speaking.

“Let’s bring it back in,” he said smoothly, folding his hands. “We’re here this morning for one reason. Because yesterday, Tristan Hale gave the world an answer in his interview with Peter Drury.”

The interview with Drury was released on Youtube yesterday getting more than 13 million views in one day.

Behind them, the studio screen lit up.  The clip played again — the calm, composed nod. Then the words that echoed across the footballing world.

“Yes. My future… is with Liverpool F.C.”

Silence.

Then Carragher leaned forward, eyes wide, voice practically trembling.

“That’s it. That’s our title. We’re going all the way.”

Henry glanced down the table. The silence said everything.

Paul Scholes sat like a statue, arms folded, eyes on the desk. Neville leaned back, lips tight. Ferdinand exhaled through his nose.

Carragher broke the silence first, eyes wide, voice climbing. “Oh, come on. Why are we pretending to be shocked?”

He turned in his seat, arms flung out in disbelief, then pointed straight down the line at Neville and the rest. “You had months to prepare for this. Reports were flying since the start of the Miracle season. Rumors for nearly a year. And still—”

He leaned forward, incredulous. “You lot refused to believe Liverpool could actually do it. That we could pull it off. That 'Crown Jewel of England would choose Anfield over Madrid. Over City.”

Gerrard laughed, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Denial’s a powerful drug,” he said, still grinning. He leaned forward, elbows on the table, voice dropping into something closer to pity.

“United fans… Chelsea fans… even City fans — they all talked themselves into believing it wasn’t possible. Told themselves he’d never pick us.” Then he shrugged, casual. “But deep down? You knew. You just didn’t want to face it. Not until Tristan himself said the words.”

Still, no response. Just the quiet creak of Scholes adjusting his position.

Henry finally spoke.“Alright. Enough chest-beating.” He turned to the camera, his voice smooth. “Let’s talk about football.” He nodded toward the screen behind them. “Because this… this isn’t just big. It’s seismic.”

Carragher, already calming, nodded.

“The best player in the world at the age of twenty-one who just lifted the Euros has switched teams from Leciester to Liverpool not only changing the landscape of the Premier League but also all of Europe as well.”

Henry sighed and agreed. “England better be ready.” He paused. “But it’s not just England. It’s everyone.”

“He’s not just joining a top side. He is the top side now. The rest of Europe’s gonna have to adapt. Fast.”

Neville gave a slow exhale, voice low.

“You’ve just handed Klopp the ultimate weapon. The kind of player who can win you a title in England and carry you through Europe. The league's changed overnight.”

“He makes Liverpool favourites for everything. You can’t even argue it.”

Henry looked into the camera again.

“The question now is who steps up to stop him.”

.

Leicester

On the couch, Tristan sat with his legs stretched out, a tablet balanced against his knee. Barbara was tucked into his side beneath a shared blanket, her head resting on his chest, fingers idly tracing the seam of his shirt while the video played.

She shifted slightly and pouted. “I can’t believe you let me sleep through it. You know I wanted to say hi to Peter.”

Tristan smiled down at her, adjusting his arm so she settled more comfortably against his collarbone. “I tried to wake you.”

She tipped her chin up just enough to give him a look.

“No you didn’t.”

He paused. “Okay. I didn’t.” A small shrug. “You didn’t sleep at night so I wasn’t about to wake you up to twenty cameramen walking around the house.”

Barbara nudged him with her elbow. “Still rude.”

“Tell him next time,” he murmured. “There’ll be plenty of those once we move to Liverpool.”

“At just 18 years old, Tristan Hale has just done what every young boy dreams of—he's written himself into the history books. From the youth fields to Wembley, from Leicester's academy to the pinnacle of English football, he's just defeated the Premier League giants, Arsenal, and won the FA Cup for his boyhood team! It's a dream come true—a triumph that's been 140 years in the making for Leicester City! Remember this name—Tristan Hale, remember his face.”

Barbara smiled into his chest. “Your mum’s favourite one. I think after the Euro final line and the trophy lift… this is top five for me too.”

Tristan let out a quiet breath of laughter.

Barbara tilted her head so she could look up at him. “You were so smug reciting that yesterday.”

“I nailed it,” he said, completely straight‑faced.

She rolled her eyes fondly, then tapped the edge of the tablet. “Scroll down. I want to see the comments.”

Tristan did.

The comments flooded past so fast the page stuttered trying to keep up.

Barbara shifted slightly so she could see better, her cheek still pressed against his chest.

The top comment had over 120k likes.

ArrestEveryoneOnTheFile: WE SIGNED THE FINAL BOSS. THE GAME IS FINISHED. PACK IT UP.

Barbara snorted.

He scrolled.

RELEASeverything: I’m not crying. You’re crying. Thank you for everything. You gave us a lifetime in three years. Go conquer Europe. Just… don’t celebrate if you score against us, yeah? It would shatter my heart and I think all of Leciester if he did that.

Tristan’s thumb paused there for a second.

Barbara squeezed his shirt gently. “They still love you.”

He nodded and kept scrolling not wanting his thoughts to go that route.

Aee: Florentino please explain yourself. What do you MEAN we didn’t get him??

BlueMoon: This is fine. Totally fine. We didn’t want him anyway. (we absolutely wanted him)

UnitedForever: Gary Neville looks like someone just told him football is cancelled. I can’t even blame him. Holy fuck this dery is about to be hell for us. I don’t even wanna watch the sport of football anymore. Anyone else thinking about going to the NBA side? I heard there’s a new star in the making, Ethan Cross or something.

Barbara laughed into his chest.

He scrolled again.

Teh_Storm: Imagine being a defender in the Champions League right now. You’re in preseason thinking life is good and then you remember Tristan Hale exists.

Thomas: Bayern respectfully declines participating in this year’s tournament.

Lenny: Juventus already filing paperwork to move to a different continent.

Barbara covered her mouth, trying not to laugh too hard because of her side.

“Careful,” Tristan warned gently.

She waved him off. “Keep going.”

He did.

IzumaUchiha: Okay but serious question — when is the Leicester farewell and the Liverpool welcome? No information has been released yet despite this video being posted. I need to book time off work.

RedFang: We’re going to need a stadium extension for the unveiling.

Ilove_Biscuit: Give the man a statue before he leaves.

Sinbad_12 ↳ Already building it from what I heard, lol. The number 22 is probably gonna be retired as well.

Tristan shook his head just wondering where this guy got the information his number was gonna be retired. That was a pretty kept secret within the club that only his team knew about alongside a few top folks at Leciester.

EthanBrown: Klopp + Tristan is illegal. Someone call UEFA. I don’t want to watch this shit anymore.

Saber: He’s finally in the Champions League. Europe is in trouble.

Rin:↳ Not trouble. Danger.

Emiya:↳ Not danger. Extinction.

Barbara laughed again, softer this time.

He kept scrolling.

Morgan: My 9‑year‑old just asked if we can support Liverpool now. I told him no. He said ‘but Tristan.’ I don’t have a counter‑argument.

Shirou: He kept his promise. He brought us trophies. He owes us nothing. Go be great. We love you, Tristan Hale. Thank you for everything.

Barbara was still giggling softly when Tristan’s tablet pinged again.

He glanced down. Two notifications. His thumb hovered, then tapped the first.

@LFCOfficial: 📣Welcome to Anfield, @TristanHale22.Liverpool Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of England international Tristan Hale from Leicester City for a club-record fee of £120 million. The official welcome ceremony will be held at Anfield on July 26, 2016.

He swiped right.

@LCFC Forever one of our own. Leicester City Football Club will host a private farewell for Tristan Hale on July 25, 2016, at the King Power Stadium.

Further details to be shared with supporters.

A short silence.

Then Tristan huffed a quiet breath through his nose, eyes flicking to Barbara.

“Huh,” he muttered. “Speak of the devil.”

Barbara shifted against him, curious. “What is it?”

He tilted the screen toward her, lips twitching just slightly.

“This is it,” he said. “A new era.”
