Life Update
Not gonna lie–it has been a difficult month. My 21-month-old son got a nasty virus and had to be on a nebulizer treatment for a couple of weeks. I went to NY Comic Con (and had a blast) and then immediately got really sick, myself. I managed to crawl across the finish line with this video, but a couple of days ago my son got sick again.
This time it was bad enough to take him to the ER and he had to be admitted into the hospital where they discovered that he has three different viruses simultaneously. I'm writing this from the hospital right now. According to the doctors, kids usually get one of these viruses, get sick, and then get over it with a new immunity. It is more rare for someone under 2 years old to catch 2 rough viruses and 1 mild virus at the same time before they've built up any immunity. I guess what I'm saying is: every daycare is secretly a bio-weapons lab.
Anyway, he's going in the right direction, but it's just going pretty slowly. I'm thinking it is unlikely that I will have a video ready to publish in December.
Patreon Update
In case you haven't already heard, Apple is causing some problems for Patreon. Apple is charging Patreon 30% for new memberships bought through the Patreon app on iOS. Obviously, Patreon doesn't want this, so beginning in November, you will no longer be able to sign up for a paid membership through the Patreon app. If you already have a paid subscription, this does not affect you. You will still be able to join a premium tier through the website.
One year from now (November 2025), Patreon will no longer offer the per-creation plan and will only offer the per-month plan. I have a year to figure out what I'm going to do, but eventually I will have to switch to a per-month plan. This is annoying for me because if something happens and I can't release a video in a certain month, supporters will still be charged for that month.
I'm sure I will figure something out. Maybe I'l make some kind of Patreon-exclusive show or something. I have some big plans for bringing back a refined version of my Cinema Stories series once Apocalypse Now is done, so that I can cover more movies.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts/ideas if you have any.
Thanks so much for your support!
