DESCRIPTION

Howdy folks. Sorry for the clickbait title, but there's actually some really important info in here and I think a lot of you will be pretty excited by a lot of it.

I’m writing to update y’all on a number of things, unrelated to the upcoming Patreon pause starting February 1st. Although quick reminder, the pause starts February 1st – you don’t have to do anything, you just won’t be charged for that month, and at the end of the month I’ll update you to let you know if we need to pause for another month. Then there’ll be changes around here, and I’ll keep you in the loop on that.

But that’s not the point of this post. The point is to let you know about some big stuff that’s happening.

I’m moving house now, and the new year is going to be dedicated to cleaning up a lot of messes, putting out the embers of old fires, and starting fresh in a lot of ways. It’s also going to be dedicated to some big creative projects. I have to finish the move, but then I’m going to be gearing up for a big year. I’ll have a whole new office/home studio and my own real piano for the first time, and I have a lot of use for it all.

First off, I have officially exited my agreement with Say-10 Records. I’ll be making a lot of changes in physical media distribution/sales and online merch management soon, and I will finally be able to get Indiegogo contributors replacements for the yucky variants. I’m hoping this will also reduce delays in future physical media stuff, and maybe even allow me greater control over the creative elements, and be able to stop previous issues from occurring again.

Secondly, I’ve just jumped aboard as composer for an indie game in development that some of y’all might have a chance to play early builds of, and I know for sure you’re all going to flip your lids when you see what it’s all about.

Third: I’m working on new music. Not just the game music, but new songs. It just started happening. It’s been happening a lot more recently. Some of these tunes are my favorite I’ve ever done. A lot of freaky stuff. I have the first inklings of an album coming together in my head. I keep thinking about this fourth century Algerian bishop. Not that I’m all that interested in the history of Catholicism. That doesn’t mean I’m anywhere near the studio; there will not be a new album this year. But to blow off steam I might throw together an EP of the songs that don’t have a home. AIIDYD would be on it if I did. If I do.

I’m going to stop numbering things now: I am also in the process of trying to finally find The Real Will Wood a home. I’ve tried a lot of different things and messed around with a lot of different options and I think I may have finally found a solution. Stay tuned.

That will also hopefully help me learn more about what I have to do for distributing my upcoming movie, Slouching Towards Branson, for which preliminary editing has begun. It will be a sort of concert film/stand up special focusing on a couple shows from my last tour. It’s going to be a while, but Jake Feldman’s on it and I’m really excited to see what he does with it. I’ll probably accompany the film release with a live album, which will likely include a few scraps of the jokes and storytelling as well as a song or two that were only played at some shows. But the full experience will definitely require watching the movie. I feel the show was my best creative and performance work to date, and I hope it translates well to video.

I’m seven chapters into the second draft of The Prescription – it’s very different but I think y’all will really like it. I’ll probably share a chapter or excerpt or two here and there after my pause period here.

I’ll also be touring this summer in celebration of my 10 year anniversary. I will be playing full band shows, although I can’t say how many or where yet. It’s not going to be huge like the last tour though, I’ll be recovering from the STB tour for the rest of my life I swear.

I’ll be kicking things into high gear once everything is settled after my big move. Y’all will be kept in the loop on all this stuff during blog posts when I’m not paused, and that’ll all be between you and me, eh? I’m not looking to be active on IG/YT all the time, and I think it’ll be more fun to stay out of the spotlight when I’m not on stage, and better for my creative process as well. I’ve come to find that my creative process is more unfiltered and natural if I keep things close to the chest and try not to think too much about how my audience might respond, but I also like hearing from a few people now and again, so I’ll be saving the more top secret stuff for the higher tiers. No demos or unfinished edits, because a handful of you had to ruin it for everyone, but some behind-the-scenes looks, maybe a clip or photo here and there with the blog posts, who knows.

Reminder – if you’re a Tier 3 or higher member, I have the final pre-pause livestream Q&A on Saturday 1/25 @ 6pm EST. Link will be dropped before then.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I’m going to go play phone tag with moving companies and punch walls for the next eight hours.

Love,
-ww
