Weekly Status Report: 2026/02/01 to 2026/02/07
I'll start by addressing the (Mr.) elephant in the room.
Yes, the second Shin-chan EVF episode has been taken down. Again. By the same service TV Asahi used the first time. This last happened in April of 2024 and took a month to resolve. Something about this video in particular is triggering the software used. I recall this being an issue when that video was first uploaded, too, and I believe it's two factors:
First, the Funimation version uses cleaner masters than the Vitello dub. The DVD footage is clean and keeps in basically everything from the Japanese version barring paint edits. The Vitello footage available has many episodes that are TV rips with wonky colours and TV bugs that arguably could get past an automated system unflagged.
Second, I used footage too long. Before I knew about the "ten second rule", I would use footage as long as I needed to be talking and have B-roll on-screen. This changed sometime after the Shin-chan video as the original upload was flagged right away. After blurring some bits, it was all fine until April 2024. Repeal May 2024, now it's struck again just a few days after the video's fifth anniversary.
I submitted a counterclaim that is VERBATIM what I used previously. Hopefully it works and the video will go back online by next month.
Moving onto what else happened this week: I interviewed Megan Emerick. We spoke on voice call for about an hour and 20 minutes. She was thrilled to talk about Blood Blockade Battlefront. Between me first reaching out and the time we talked, she rewatched the entirety of season 1. She remembered a lot of things from recording and had nothing but good things to say about ADR director (and voice of Deldro) Mike McFarland. I'll post this interview after the video comes out.
Speaking of interviews: I know you are all waiting for uploads of my interviews of Marc Thompson and TheOrgg from the Kinnikuman video. Those are still coming. I want to get those done once the first draft of the BBB EVF script is ready.
Presently, I am on page four of the first draft for the BBB EVF script. I need to finish the intro, but everything talking about the early fandom (2009-2010) and Dark Horse manga run from volumes 1 through 7 (2011-2015) is done. Given this is three pages long and, let's be real, most people aren't going to care THAT much about it, I will be condensing this in the final draft. Again, my goal is to keep this video until 45 minutes long -- preferably under 40 even. The first draft reading will be on Sunday, February 15th, at 6PM ET / 3PM PT on my Discord server. I think the script will be at least 80% complete by then.
As a reminder, there is a Convention Story Roulette stream on Friday the 13th (!!) at 6PM ET / 3PM PT. Current headcount of participants counting myself is six. Will that be the number of people who show? Probably not, but we'll have at least myself lol. I still have over 160 untold stories lol, I think I've underestimated the shit I've seen at cons.
