Good evening gentlemen. As previously mentioned, there was a bit more going on in the split up HP/Ranma Patron Polls this month than was on the surface. First of all, I wondered which of the one shots I’ve put out over the years were most interesting to you all.
I wanted to see which, if any should replace FILFy Teacher when it finishes, and if either of the Ranma fics were at all interesting. The results were... inconclusive.
There were two teaser chapter-type stories in each poll, and putting them together, Harry Sawyer did the worst by a country mile, bringing in only 379. That’s very sad, as I was looking forward to Harry exploring the world via the ocean and then eventually India-style magic. But if I go by these results… that story is dead.
Note that I’m not saying it is dead, but that the results of these polls were remarkably negative against it.
Young Ranma in a Black Dog’s World did worst, with only 646. Now, that was more than Climbing Together, an established story, but I put that down to the fact the next chapter would seem to be heavy on the training and not the combat or martial arts comedy.
I am going to say now, though, that YRiaBDW is dead for now.
An Aunt's Touch was next with 797. Is it Saeko and Rei, is that why it was so oddly popular? I haven’t even Grammarly checked the teaser chapter, for goodness sake. Regardless, it wasn’t popular enough for me to want to keep it around as consideration.
It also gets a minus mark from me because it’s a world I’ve already finished a fic in. Not a fic killer on it’s own, obviously, but it’s there. This one will be added to the forgotten file for now.
Alto Out There, probably because of recency bias, won recently, and so it may show up in the future when I feel like posting a new chapter of a random fic. However, the big winner of the one shots/teaser stories was Fate Takes a Sidestep. 1,046 votes. Wow.
I think here, it’s a mix between it being a Harry/Hermione fic, the fact I’d be going through the Hogwarts years quickly, and then getting on to the ecchi world.
Regardless, when FILFy Teacher ends, Fate Takes a Sidestep will replace it… or at least, it may. I have other ideas as to ways to hurry fics up, but I want to get the next chapter of FILFy out in April before bringing them up.
However, just as much wondering about the one shot fics, I had wondered how much people wanted me to stick to the known fics. Which, in the HP sphere, they did. The Ranma fans didn’t seem to care so much. That’s… interesting. The Ranma fans seem to embrace the idea of more fics even if that slows down the chapters of existing ones. The HP guys and gals seem to want me to pursue the existing fics.
But would that be the case if I had Going off the Rails there? Still, pretty interesting.
Anyway, here is an updated list of the four fics that are closest to completion. You will note there’s a pretty big leap from FILFy to the rest on this list.
FILFy Teacher – 4 chapters. If my muse cooperates. I have found fics and sent off the last chapter to an editor, so let’s see. I’d love to finish this fic in
King of Champions – 10 to 12. This fic doesn’t need to end cleanly, with Salem dead. It only needs for her to be contained, and a better way of fighting the Grimm found. That’s possible in a shorter (for a given value), and I’ve already done a good job of laying out the world, and the background and everything there, so after the next chapter, we switch away from Beacon, and the plot and action picks up, until Harry realizes the true depth of the Grimm threat, and everything.
Magic of the Force – 14 to 19. This just depends on how the war will go, how long and how much detail I want to go into. And if um… no, that would be telling. No spoilers here.
Climbing Together – 22 and up: Here the fic will start to pick up after the trio leave India, and the main plot will start to take center stage in Egypt. That, and how much detail I want to add about the various tournaments. Still, given the small scope of the conflicts and such, I can tell it isn’t going to be a forever fic at least.
I still maintain that Death’s Avenger will be put on hold when Harry returns to the Unseen Path. That’ll be the time for a huge time skip, and for me to sit down (metaphorically speaking) with Tomon – if he still can – and others to put together a full magical school, plan out a few things, major events, and so forth. I will probably even be using a writing program to do it at that point. How long that will take, I don’t know, but it will be postponed for at least least until FILFy finishes.
GDWHOM is on probably permanent hiatus. Journey hasn’t even finished it’s second arc yet – though it will in the next chapter. Heroes… Bhaalson… Stallion… Fate… HA…HAHA….HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAaaaaa… no.
Effect… I suppose I could estimate the chapters for that fic, but no point since it’s above thirty. That’s both given the size of the chapters, and how much stuff I want to show. Although like King of Champions, it’s not a fic that needs to be ended cleanly.
Funnily enough, the only fic among the newer ones that I can see being larger than twenty-four chapters or so is the Aunt’s Touch, and that’s because I want to bring in some War Machine universe stuff. Well, that and Going Off the Rails, but that’s not a teaser. That’s just a fic I will start work on when Magic is finished.
So that's where my rambling thoughts about the new fics are. Alto Out There has a chance of entering the Ranma rotation, but we will see. FILFy seriously needs to be finished, and I will be thinking of ways to do so after April. Hope you have a nice weekend guys.
