As usual, this comic is based on real events.
Mainly, the existence of the entity known as Demonic Paul McCartney, or YentracCm Luap
That's right, he exists, he’s on the curtain of a barbershop close to a friend's house, he looks more like Paul from the Let it be era than the cartoon one but that worked better for this and yes, I like to think what his song would be like from time to time.
Which is kind of perfect because, with a lot of Paul's songs being about love, that means that Laup sings a lot about hate. Perfect for a demon.
Perhaps too perfect. I had decided some time ago to start originally making the band's comics in Spanish first and then translating them to English, but I had to immediately alter that rule as, with so much of this comic being based on Paul McCartney’s songs, and therefore in English, that felt too weird.
An attempt was made, I considered changing Paul for some Mexican or Hispanic singer but I didn't want to imply that, therefore, said singer is the Hispanic McCartney.
Even then I considered some and even tried to come up with several “evil” versions of famous Spanish love songs, including an evil version of Mijares’ Soldado del Amor, Ciudadano del Odio that’s actually pretty funny and I'm considering fully writing.
Me making myself laugh, you know, like a sane person.
That's actually something I've always been pretty good at. Changing the lyrics of songs and making them stupid. In middle school me and some friends were going to start a band of stupid covers but then recess was over and we forgot about it or something.
On the other hand, while decent at rhyming, I've never been good at actual poetry. I'm alright getting it, but my brain is too literal to write it good.
That's why I feel that the joke of Diana losing the thread of her very emotionally transcendent song could have landed better and that's why these lyrics are provisional in the case I come up with something better. That and the fact that there's actually no music due to the medium. Though, in the end she never had a chance. She was competing against Hey Jude.
So yeah! Comics are back, baby! And about time. This comic should be named Hiatus X Hiatus, though that pun would not make sense here because of the title and also it's not good enough for the comparison so forget I mentioned that.
But yeah! Here it is, would you imagine that. The band doing band stuff, or to be more precise, almost doing Band stuff, but getting distracted, yet still playing some tunes.
Also, would you look at that! Diego has finally entered the server. I’ve been wanting to introduce him in the comic for a good while and that actually has kind of caused me issues.
There's actually like three comics featuring Diego that I've been wanting to do but those sort of assume that we already know him and his whole deal so I wanted, before that, to make at least one comic to actually introduce him and his dynamic with Lil and finally here it is.
Actually, this isn't my first attempt. I started with a similar idea before but I decided to scrap it because I realized that in the original concept, by the end of the comic, nothing really happened. There was a longer and more formal introduction for Diego, as In Davo presenting Diego to Tina and then a lot more rambling on the mechanics of Demonic Paul McCartney.
I actually had finished the first page of this draft before scrapping it, though on the brighter side, most of it I reused for this version and recycled one of the panels.
Fun fact, I haven't changed her design but in the last couple of months, I've changed a bit the way I draw Lil. I've tried to make her look a bit more loose, and when you compare this page to the final version you kind of can see what I mean.
One of the things I do miss from the earlier version of this comic is that there we could see how amused Tina is by Diego and Lil's thing. Though there will be time for it later.
