DESCRIPTION

hi.

i spent the past week—but especially the past two days—manically trying to sort out as much social media stuff as possible, just in case the stupid bird website goes to hell. i wish i didn’t need that audience, but you live and learn, and i’m finally getting round to diversifying properly. even now as i sit on the sofa under a blanket, with my second glass of wine (after telling myself earlier i’d stop straining my eyes today) i’m still messing about with apps and getting things in order. but i’d rather be safe than sorry.

i thought considering the title of this comic, now would be a good time to start posting it. i have a few pages buffer but i’m continuing work on it as soon as my head stops spinning! i’m super excited.

thank you so much to new patrons and followers here. you are the best. <3

our main character Ingrid, a tattooist in her mid twenties, chats with her customers as she inks them, and listens sympathetically as they spill the sordid details of their private lives. at the same time, she struggles with her own intense sexual relationship with her boss, and gets lost in the stories of those around her to avoid confronting the hard realities of life.

this comic idea is one i've had percolating in my head for a while. i wanted to do something set in the real world, and in england, because as much as i love where Infernal Flowers (the other comic i've been doing. i’m not ending it though, promise!) is set, which is New Orleans, the year 2056, post nuclear apocalypse -- sometimes i just want to draw the place i experience every day. i'll post the pages here first as early access from now on.

funny thing about this page, i was like, this HAS to be set in england, specifically the north, but her apartment HAS to have a cool fire escape on it. i love architecture, so i fixate on stupid details like that, and the look of these metal fire escapes is burned into my brain from so many films, tv shows, and batman comics. BUT i asked a few people and they said 'it's weird that there's a fire escape. looks like new york.' but the thing is, i'm sure i've seen fire escapes on plenty of buildings, especially in cities like manchester and leeds. i looked it up, pouring over tonnes of pictures and google maps looking for fire escapes, and found plenty. i even started seeing loads in my own city. so HA, there. they do exist in england. and now i cannot unsee fire escapes on buildings. i've started compulsively pointing them out to people, like 'LOOK! there's a fire escape!' and they're like, '... and... so what?'. so i just spontaneously combust to teach them a lesson.
