We've always been very cautious about changing a character's appearance, preferring to draw as best we can in the early stages of development.
So if Sunny hadn't been the coder's favorite character that he had dreamed of adding a long time ago, she probably wouldn't have been redrawn.
But since her story is just beginning, there's no harm in making a few changes.
I hope no one has had time to get too attached to her old face.
